Tuesday May 30 |
 | swimming 55:00 [2]1.5 mi (36:39 / mi) | |
| |
| Did some intervals including 4 X 200 in 4:00. Swam the distance in 3:00 so ended up taking long rests. Did some other intervals also. Only did about 1/2 of the workout, but this was enough. The time includes my rest in between the intervals. Too many people in the pool to swim that much of it breastroke so had to stay with freestyle. Arrived home thinking of mowing the lawn and thought I could put it off for one more day. |
Monday May 29 |
 | Yard work 1:00:00 [1]1.0 mi (1:00:00 / mi) | |

Sunday May 28 |
 | swimming 30:00 [1]0.6 mi (49:58 / mi) | |
| |
| Swam real easy to stretch out my legs. You know you are tired when the breaststroke is faster then freestyle. Probably will take a couple of weeks off from all of the running. Maybe raced a tad bit too much? |
Saturday May 27 |
 | Running race 2:35:00 [5]16.0 mi (9:40 / mi) +800m 5:13 / km | |
| |
| Attempted to run the Old Dominion 50 miler just feeling so bad at this point did not want to continue like this for 34 more miles. Started out the race in the dark. At the last minute the race course was changed a lot. Plan to go back to racing a shorter distance not sure if I will try to ultra again since my body does not seem to hold up that well at any distance above 50K. Came home and my engraved plaque from Ruth Anderson had arrived in the mail. |
Wednesday May 24 |
 | Running 48:00 [1]6.0 mi (7:59 / mi) | |

| Ran easy to just keep my legs loose. Need to spend some time stretching. All the yardwork and painting this weekend made me stiff. |
Monday May 22 |
 | Weightlifting 30:00 [2] | |

| With 7,000 ft of elevation climbing to deal with in the race I figured I should get some last minute weightlifting in. Did not have enough time to run with a massage in the evening. |

| Picking up streamers and glow sticks in one section of the MMT 100 trail race. Finally caught up with the last people in the race with about 1.5 miles to the aid station so I could not pass them. |
 | Walking 30:00 [1]1.4 mi (21:25 / mi) | |
| |
| Jesse and I walked up to the lookout tower. I needed to give the last runner a gap before continuing to pick up streamers. |
 | Running 1:30:00 [1]5.5 mi (16:21 / mi) +150m 9:22 / km | |
| |
| Much faster leg for streamer pick up. Making good time until about 3.5 miles into this leg caught up with the last man in the race. The other two men had passed him so again I could not pass him as I picked up streamers. He was talking that he was going to drop out and I thought after going 88+ miles he could finish. I got the other man I was with the run with him carrying his water bottles etc. while I did streamer pick up. He was really close to not making the cutoff for the next aid station which was to be at 90 miles by 12:40. So I ran ahead so the next man who would pick up streamers could pace him in. He was allowed to continue and I looked at the results this AM he was last making it by 8.5 minutes. |

Sunday May 7 |
 | Running 3:36:20 [1]26.22 mi (8:15 / mi) | |
| |
| Ran the Potomac River Run marathon for training. Decided to train a tad slower. Some of the field started early and the rest of the field mixed with half marathon and marathoners started a half hour later. Had no idea who was in each race so just went at my pace. Caught up with someone in my club and we ran together for the first 14 miles. I was hoping to pace him to a PR. When we ran mile 13 in 8:40 he said to go ahead since he was going to slow down. Ate some of my food kind of picking at it throughout the remainder of the race. Had the Tim syndrome needing to go to the bathroom twice before the gun went off and twice in the race. Ran the first 13 miles in 1:46 and was in 8th place; worked my way to 3rd open passing the women at mile 22. She ended up finishing about 10 mins behind me. Prize was $100 plus maybe some other stuff. No awards ceremony by the time I left they were still working on results. ideal race conditions for the first loop warmed some for the second loop plus now I was alone. 300 people signed up the marathon, but I think a lot dropped after the half. The man I was with for a long time ended up PRing by 4+ mins. He was happy since this was not a PR course due to the hills, trail turns and people dodging. ran in a new pair of trainers purchased just the day before- felt great. |
 | Walking 14:00 [1]1.0 mi (14:00 / mi) | |
| |
| Walking after the race so I would not stiffen up. After finishing the race felt warm and after a few minutes started to get the chills so put on my sweats. |
