Shooting 2:00:00 [1]
WOW! this went really well. Even with the wind shot almost all prone shooting ending with 10 shots standing. Ended up placing three bullets through the same hole standing. ended up having the huge range almost entirely to myself only three other long rifle shooters so nice and quiet.

after all of the shooting went for an easy run. I feel it on the uphills, but as you can see from this time still moved along.

two miles warm up before the one mile run with drills did some walking also to try and stretch my legs out. Ended up a little stiff probably from the downhill running the evening before so trying my best to stretch it out. In between heats a long wait so tried to stay fresh.

Ran the DCRRC track championship series. Had one heat only for Masters Women and will I was it. Luckily a Masters man who was late ran with me and we were just the right pace for each other. The director did not think I wanted to run alone just with the biathlon and orienteering I have learned to push myself. The man passed me with about 500 m to go and finished just under 6. careful to hold back since my goal was 6:20 and I still had the 3K.

Long wait between heats. Almost ran with open women for another mile just jogged and stretched to stay fresh. Ran with the slower heat so I was not even sitting around longer. Started out OK, but could feel my legs getting really stiff plus with temps in the high 80's with humidity this did not help much. The results were printed in The Washington Post. After cooled down while waiting for awards. Won a pair of nice running socks not bad considering no entry fee plus free hot dogs.

ran with a group running loops of the Mormon Temple Hill. Ran the loop three times. Much better since this time I could actually keep up with the group that is all men up the hill. Worked on the shooting doing once prone and once standing able to slow my heartrate.

Had a much needed masage along with someone else stretching me out. Only having one massage in two weeks was way too long for me to wait. legs feel much better.

shot outside. with all of the rain the fair weather people left so I had the range almost to myself. Forgot my scope so I could shoot, but could not set the windage. Shot fairly well standing and ended by overlapping five rounds prone through the 10.

longest I have run in some time and I felt it. The competing last weekend along with the travel probably was a factor also. pace very slow to start running downhill on the CCT much faster climbing out. Let the group go ahead as they did some surges and I figured I did enough of that last week. the group stopped three times so made me a tad stiff since I usually don't stop so much. Had to stop three times for a bathroom. I have been really drinking lots of fluid due to all of the competing and the heat have been drinking a lot more fluids.

cleaned up around the stone work and weeded the one side of the yard by the fence. my neighbor worked on his side at the same time so this worked well to clean up both of our yards.

standing dry firing. For some reason the gun felt really light and I had no problem aiming well.

ran easy miles just to raise the heart rate some. Shot twice standing and once prone. Hit 2, 1 and 4. The weightlifting earlier in the day probably was a factor. shot more rounds after that working mostly on standing.

Biathlon race 36:44 [5]5.91 km (6:13 / km)
ran the same course over one minute faster. Shot my best ever for four stops hitting seven total. Finished seventh. Did not make the World Cup Team only two women qualified.

zeroing with one warm up lap to confirm. used different ammo so had a real tight group.

Saturday Jul 19

Biathlon race 20:05 [5]3.49 km (5:45 / km)
much better race today. hit three prone and zero standing. Hit the target standing at least my spotter saw me hit it plus it makes a different sound when it hits plus the white moved and never change. Oh well.... an extra penalty lap. finished 7th out of 19 and second masters again. beat a women I have not beat before only by 17 secs. In the pursuit tommorrow she will be 17 secs behind me at the start.

Friday Jul 18

Biathlon race 37:47 [5]6.05 km (6:15 / km)
Nationals. Not a good race for me finishing 8th out of 18th and well back of first place that outraced the field. shot about normal for me hitting 2 prone, 1 prone, two standing and none standing. Women who competed against me in NJ thought I could beat her just she shot well last time standing and I had zero so could not catch her. finished second master to a women that was on the National team in 2006. high quality field. day one of three. course tough on trails and temps in the low 90's. had 15 penalties so this added a lot of distance.

zeroing plus ran one loop to warm up and shoot again.

zeroed on the race course. did well. found one metal target that was defective when it was hit would not change to white. shot about 100 rounds.
Biathlon 6:00 [2]1.3 km (4:37 / km)
ran easy and shot again. Only hit two targets prone and this confirmed one target was defective since my spooter saw me hit it almost in the middle and it did not change to white. this was the second time it happened so my spotter let the range official know.
Walking 9:00 [1]1 km (9:00 / km)
walked the course just assumed the women range the pink course actually we are one the orange course. Plan to use my spikes since it rained heavily and the course is more rugged.

ran a bit extra to stretch out the legs.

ran to the track and back.

ran well even with incredibly loose legs. Yes, I had a massage last night and my legs feel great! Extremely loose so only going to get so much speed out of them. Temps did not help much either probably in the low 90's on the track since it is black and it just radiates the heat. ran the 200's in 41, 40, 41, 40 and the 400's in 88, 89, 90, 90 ended with a 19 sec 100 and practiced some shooting. actually just went to prone position shooting. poisin ivy on the leg all dried just peeling off. My legs look really beautiful.

went to the indoor range. mostly shot alone they let me stay long after closing since the other range was being used by a security company. shot well both prone and standing. shot 130 rounds. If I am patient enough and wait for my shot I can get a 9 or 10.

ran a bit out to raise my heart rate and shot prone. hit 4 out of 5.

after making the changes wanted to try it at the outdoor range. shot well prone even with fairly strong shifting winds. went fairly well standing also got one X and overlapped two bullets. ran slowly for about 1K to raise my heart rate and shoot standing.

ran point to point and got caught in the rain about half way through. saw a sign "slow down our squirrels can't tell one nut from another nut."

Saturday Jul 12

shot outside. went really well shooting prone and fairly well standing. need to sand some off my bolt since my finger drags against it some and messes up the shot. several times overlapped shots prone. had the range mostly to myself so shot more since it was easy to change targets. Changed the trigger location moving it about 5 mm forward to make my finger sit on it better. Only took about 10 shots to adjust and this made me improve.

finally put the new ground cover plants in. Added four bags of topsoil flipped it into the other soil and put in 15 plants. also mowed part of the lawn. total time 2+ hours.

only shot enough prone to zero and shot the rest standing. at first could feel how tired I was from the weighlifting, but the high power shooting probably did not help much either. Once they finished shot much better overall about 60%.

Wednesday Jul 9

ran 4 X 200, 6 X 400 and 2 X 1200. Ran the 200's in 41, 42, 42, 41. The 400's in 88-90 and the 1200's in 4:35 and 4:36. first overcast and ended with full sun temps in the low 80's with humidity. felt pretty good legs a little funny feeling probably due to the bike riding and flying. the rest of the mileage is recovery which I took really slow since the 400's were going well.

dropped my car to the shop and ran to the track and back for intervals so this was my warmup and cool down.

worked a lot on legs and shoulders. Always have the problem of getting just the correct amount of weight to use due to how much I am gaining strength. Found it very helpful to have a trainer give extra resitance on different parts of the motion.

Planned to go shooting just not enough time in the day plus lots to do since returning from traveling.

Sunday Jul 6

Bike riding 1:40:00 [1]25.4 mi (3:56 / mi)
went bike riding on mountain bikes with my brother starting in Ayer and ending well into NH. Some of this is on trails so I slowed a lot since I have rarely done this. longest bike ride in a really long time. Old railroad converted to a bike trail so fairly heavily used.

about half way through stopped biking and went for a trail run. My brother biked the trails and I ran. not the easiest. All the longer the trail so back on the bike to finish. Legs feel strange for the first mile, but got in the running mode after that.
Note
tried a neighbor's trampoline. My brother thought this might finally tire me out. It helped to have good balance. lot of fun.

Saturday Jul 5

Biathlon 21:12 [4]4.1 km (5:10 / km)
Tied for my best shooting yet! Hit three prone and two standing so easily won and beat all of the men also. course was flat and fairly fast since it was on dirt roads. Mass start event, but got into the shooting first so had my pick of targets. really took my time shooting not really sure how long to shoot This time shooting more important since the penatly loop was 100m. temps in the low 70's with some humidity huge temperature drop for me. Ran well and felt great. set a new course record. Thought I almost hit the last standing target may have moved the gun to soon. course was 2 X 1300, last lap 1000 and 500m total in penalty loops.

before the competition zeroing had a tough time ended up swithching ammo towards the end so had to change my zero since it shoots different. First started with paper then to metal which went really bad that is why I swithched ammo. Afterwards the range was open so shot more some prone and more yet standing on the metal targets. Once the range was closed helped with pick up.

ran slow and shot at targets. Three times prone and one time standing. Everytime hit two targets.

went to the range for the event for training. helped set up for the competition on Saturday. no wind so shot fairly well prone and standing. used the biathlon targets.

trained at the outdoor range. with shifting and changing speed winds it was tough. Plus did not want to use all the good ammo since I am low so used other ammo. shot only 50% both prone and standing which under the conditions was not that bad. managed to shoot three bullets in a row through the same hole prone.

my brother went by back so I could run. went to the local state forest and ran on the trails and back to the house. distance based on his bike since I lost signal using his Garmin GPS. ran well with temps in the mid 80's and full sun.
