Saturday Sep 8

Cross country skiing 1:00:00 [1]5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
went out skiing again. tried areas that are a little more hilly. Had a great massage late in the day. Had some Krones to use up plus the price was right.

Friday Sep 7

Cross country skiing 1:00:00 [1]5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
tried the roller ski cross country skies. took about 10 mins to get used to it and moved along well after that. mostly stayed on somewhat flat areas.
Walking 30:00 [1]2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
went out walking with Jesse just to stretch our legs. Stopped to watch the fireworks over the lake.

Wednesday Sep 5

Biathlon race 34:55 [5]5 km (6:59 / km) +135m 6:09 / km
not a great day today. Mass start Women's 5K. Last in the pack of 27, but planned to do this so I did not get out too fast. Came into shoot with the others and figured after doing well with prone it would go well. Thought to much about running again and did not shoot carefully afterwards realizing I was pulling the trigger much to hard which pulled all of my shots to the right. Had to run five penalty loops putting me far behind. Second prone set only got one. Redeemed myself in the standing by getting two and then three. Still better then Fort Kent, but after improving on prone thought it would be much better. Finished 10+ mins out of first and easily in last. did not add extra distance run for penalty laps.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
practiced prone on SCATT after the meet to figure out what happened and the computer confirmed that I was just pulling the trigger to hard. Much more gentle when practicing and did not have the problem, but in the hotel room you don't have the other biathletes around you. Wish we had one more person to make a relay team just one short.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
zeroing before the race. Pulled a couple of rounds but had several that overlapped so felt good about my shooting. the other women was not in this race so had it all to myself. had to buy another sling since the one from yesterday was missing kept thinking this was pulling off my shooting, but shot better when I was zeroing with it.
Running warm up/down 26:00 [1]3.0 mi (8:39 / mi)

Tuesday Sep 4

Walking 40:00 [1]2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
since my husband and I could not sleep went for a walk in the middle of the night. went in another direction to explore and saw an historical area marked with a 300+ year old tree where a rebellion happened. once we got back had no problem sleeping. other people on the team are not sleeping well so it is probably from such a big time change.
Running warm up/down 17:50 [1]2.0 mi (8:54 / mi)
ran around on the course and to a bathroom before zeroing. course a little muddy from the rains of the last two days.
Biathlon race 18:33 [5]3 km (6:11 / km) +81m 5:27 / km
Sprint competition with staggered starts. Started number five in a field of 27. The Olympic champion got to go first and the rest of the draw was by luck. I like to start early and I think it is a slight advantage. careful to run the first loop conservative and it helped when I shot 3 out of five prone narrowly missing the last shot. Shot a little slower versus Fort Kent and it made a difference. The rest of the field with all of their training shoot rather fast, but had to stick with my plan. Shot 2 out of 5 standing also better for me. Far less penalty loops to run so mentally just a much better race. Finished last, but when the rest of the field trains full time can't be disappointed missed 26th place by one minute and managed to outshoot about six women. for some reason they keep shooting really fast eventhough they are missing. Finished 4:05 out of first place. When I was being introduced, in a different language, understood some including that I was a full time Biologist and had numerous running awards. Had to weigh in the gun beforehand and found out it only weighs 8.5 pounds not 12.1 which is what I was told it weighed. extra distance for penalty laps not added.
Running warm up/down 18:00 [1]1.5 mi (11:59 / mi)
cool down with the a teammate. ran to the ski jump and looked it over. Otepaa is trying to bid for the winter olympics so they have a national team training facility with numerous paths for skate skiing on roller blades. Walked a little since her blisters were still bothering her. She was in the Junior women competition so did not compete in my field though she did run the same course as the Senior Women.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
zeroing before the start of the race. Not the easy to adjust since it was winds of various speeds.

Monday Sep 3

Running 33:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
ran some on the course and the rest on the streets in town finding money on the street. did some pickups and came back into shoot. forgot to initially change my windage, but realized when I was missing all of the targets. Made the change and hit 3 out of 5 with winds that picked since shooting earlier. shot a few more standing and could tell I was tired since it was sloppy.
Shooting 1:20:00 [1]
more time on the range this time most countries showed up so more chaos to adjust, but managed to easily block it out. not good prone grouping- needed to warm up and shot really well. went to metal targets and shot 5 for 5 and reset and shot 4 out of five barely missing the last one. In between ran and came back for the standing metal target practice. shot 120 rounds total. much better conditions with warmer air and overcast, but no rain.
Note
back massage early in the morning for 20 mins since I think some of yesterday's shooting woes were due to a stiff back and not having the flexibility and balance needed to shoot well. It seemed to help along with the better weather. Also took my gun partly apart last night, cleaned well adding some oil to key parts which made it work a little smoother.

Sunday Sep 2

Shooting 45:00 [1]
informal training at the range. somewhat cold and extremely windy with shifting directions and speed so made zeroing and shooting tricky. Had to wait for the right moment to shoot. did not shoot that well, but when your whole body is blowing around it was tough. took the gun apart later to clean and dry out.
Running 34:00 [1]4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
ran around on the course and through the town area. the course is mostly on a well groomed trail with about 30% on pavement. Climbs early with a slow decent.
Shooting 30:00 [1]
SCATT training in the hotel. This time did all standing.
