Orienteering race 1:25:00 [5]

WOC long Qual.
What can I say, I struggled! Didn't physically feel great at the start. Little flat but still happy not to be sick like the other boys and my quad was really good.
Started race ok, little shakey to second control. Was happy with first 1/3 tho. Some mistakes after first radio and started to lose my intensity after mistakes. Lost some time on the longer legs by making navigational errors mid leg. Therefore not following my planned route.
Struggled towards the end as I delt with the fact that my run was not going to be good enough.
I would have needed a really good race to qualify in the long, physically and navigationally. I was not up to either on the day. Bit disappointed not to get closer.

Note
(rest day)

Well 1 more sleep before my first run. Got my first taste of WOC today with the middle qualification. Thought I would check out the event to see how everything ran. Was a pretty quiet affair really. Must be all saved for the finals.
5/6 qualifiers today. Great to see!
Can't complain to much about anything. Feel good, now I just need to do the right things in the forest when it counts tomorrow.
Thanks for the support guys!!!

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

Last hit out in the terrain.
Model for the long. Beautiful forest, loved it. Fairly happy with my navigation altho few direction problems, got better and better as I went on. Happy with my last hitout in the terrain, its not the hardest stuff in the world but you still got to stay on the ball. Keen for sunday now.
Go you Aussies in the Middle Qualifier!!!!

Running 40:00 [4]

4*2min 3min recov with Sheppa in Norv skov (something like that)
Good to get bit of speed into the legs. Felt like I needed a good clean out. Wasn't a great session but will feel better for it.
Moved into the accomadation now. Not too bad, personal room with internet access to update my AP regularly. Cant complain.

Note
(rest day)

Just woke up, but know today will be a rest day. Help the leg improve a little. Its not really feeling too bad dismorning. Still feeling the effects of a great massage.

Traveling down to Goteburg in a few hours, tomorrow I will be off to Denmark.

Didn't get much sleep last night, getting pretty excited. Could do with a extra hour in the car.

Running 30:00 [1]

Crap run. Went to do some Ints but my Quad is bloody sore after previous couple of days.

Got a massage from Vendula (Bjs housemate and qualified Physio). Bloody wicked! Better then anything in Aust I've had. Didn't fiddle and fart around like at home.

Running 50:00 [3]

Great run on some Halden trails with BJ and Ewan. Took a dip in a nice warm lake half way around. Beautiful! The local moose avoided my spotting again. Just saw its feet before it headed back into the forest. Back to Ewans for a great BBQ. Most Ozzie bbq Ive ever had outside of Oz. Troysie and RunO even made a surprise visit.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Somewhere in sweden, over the border from Halden.
Did some Sprint O training through the forest with an old course of BJs. Half way around I did some short ints. 5*1.10min 2.30min recovery. Orienteering was improvement on yesterday, keeping direction better.

Well Ive been pretty slack at AP lately and pressures from others meant it is a good time to start again. It also gives me an opportunity to let everybody know how things are going on the let up to WOC.

Hows it looking for WOC.
Struggled with some of the danish terrain last week. I didn't give the terrain the respect it deserved. While there is no real technical navigating in and out of control circles there are lots of route choice and direction changes. Most of my problems would come mid-leg as I would lose focus on my next move and get confused with my direction. Mainly causing time lost through a lot of hesitating. Cheers TommyQ your advice of breaking the leg up into little sections is right on the money. Looking at my compass helps a bit too.
Things havnt been perfect physically either, my left quad gives me some pain during and after most runs. Still it isnt really slowing me down and isnt getting worse. Looking after it the best I can. Running on the roads seems to be the biggest killer for it. Nice forest paths are in order.
Overall tho Im feeling pretty good. Nothing in Denmark is too strange. Orienteer like I can at home and things should go ok.
