Running 45:00 [3]

Early Morning with Kye. So dark! Felt pretty good even though I hadn't slept much since 3am. Although bit of a dodgy stomach at the end. Must have been due to the rare chicken I ate last night... I saw shashimi chicken breast being served in Japan on Anthony Bourdains travel show.. maybe its a little safer when the chicken is super fresh and breast not maryland on the bone.
Really tired now! (1pm)

Wednesday Mar 24, 2010 #

Note

Arrived into Melbs at 1030. Felt pretty good all day and no need to sleep. got to sleep at 10pm

Lost over the pacific

Running 30:00 [3]

Quick one past ground zero and lots of rushing suits. Over to Hudson river and along the shores until I spoted Ms Statue of Liberty again. Back through the Financial district. Now time to pack and head to the airport. Its been an intense and long 2 weeks. Happy to head home but I feel like I am just getting to know the edges of NY.

Sunday Mar 21, 2010 #

Note

Mid day wake up in Harlem. Harlem is a bit of a rough area but made it home ok via a quick Times square visit.
I never would have thought I would be doing Afternoon Yoga it NY. It followed by a Home cooked Chicken Bourdin by Cassies Housemate. Awesome to have a home cooked meal after 2 weeks.
Midtown is definitely my favourite area I have seen. Lots and lots of different foods and bars. Apparently it used to be slums but is now getting trendy, it still felt a bit rough and poor though.

Running 52:00 [3]

Not feeling too healthy today. It was a struggle but decided to run across the booklyn bridge and into main st. Pretty nice and definately a bit more chilled and residential compared to Downtown. Back and did a little trip through Chinatown (they are always quiet in the morning). Bought lots of vegetables for breakie.. it helped. Weather is sooo nice so headed to Central Park. Walked around Upper west side 72nd st and had my first Ny bagel from Jewish bakery (as expected, heavy but pretty nice). Central park was pumping since it was wicked weather. Even roadies out. Definitely a nice and more chilled place to live compared to Downtown and financial district. Back to the buzz for some retail therpy, but the huge discount designer stores are more like Ikea were your head hurts so much my the end you don't want anything... Chilling with a Brooklyn lager, it's the first American beer I have tasted with actual flavour... I think they forgot to add the hops and malt in the others... Nevada Pale is not too bad either, blue moon wheat is ok but its getting all relative.

Note

Slept on the couch until Renee got me up to head for some drinks at a friends in East Village. Great crew, met Christina and Cassie followed them to a R&B place in Midtown.. one of few white guys. Then a live rock bar in Upper West side with true american rock. 430am French toast at 24hr French Roast hit the spot. Would have been a big trip home so Crashed the night in Harlem.

Running 46:00 [3]

Tour of Lower Manhatten, Staying almost under the Brooklyn bridge so top spot. Highlights included Brooklyn bridge, Statue of liberty, ground zero and wall st.
Totally different to the rest of my trip.. people are twice as skinny and move twice as fast and wall street was quiet by 8... I think everyone was at there desks
BBALL @ Madison Square Gdns
Absolute cracker of a game between Knicks and 76ers. Knicks looked average all game but really came through for the crowd at the end. They were pumped.

Thursday Mar 18, 2010 #

Note

Slow recovery from last night, then Bus DC-NYC. Freeway and bus driver was dodgy as, but still managed to sleep lots. Within first hr of being in NY caught subway to meet my host (Renee) and was drinking a Bud with her and colleagues at a cool bar off Wall st.. felt rather New Yorkish

Running 50:00 [3]

American news reported a new phenomena... its called interval training. It allows you to get in a 30min work out into 20mins so I decided to give it a go. 10x1min 30sec recov. Headed to Downtown via 14th st and back via 7th st.
Rest of day was spent checking out Arlington cemetery, National muesem of history.
They celebrate St Pats day in a big way.. Dinner on U st, cool live music bar in Adams morgan and finished with a trashy Frat house party... it was messy!

Tuesday Mar 16, 2010 #

Running 45:00 [3]

U street to Adams Morgan suburb. Its a Hip part of Washington, lots of bars and cheaper restaurants. Bit of a mixture of African-Americans and whites. U street is a famous African-American strip.
Rest of day followed with some real white collar shopping in George town with Berni... Very Chapel st ish... Not a successful day tho, must have seen too much raphel lauren and tommy hilfiger.
Perfect spring day.

Running 1:12:00 [3]

Tour of Washington.
Sub 10 degrees, rain and darkness.. not the nicest conditions. Still able to get some average happy snaps.
White House-Lincoln monument-Washington tower-Capitol hill.
Rest of the day followed with Air and Space museum art gallery and checking out downtown. Museums are all free and pretty awesome in washington, downtown was pretty average. just gov departments apparently Georgetown is the place to head

Sunday Mar 14, 2010 #

Note

Red eye special San Fran-Washington DC, pretty tired! Welcome chilly and wet weather so spent most of the day chilling out. City looks pretty nice on first impression. Awesome catching up with my 2nd Bro Berni.

Running 1:35:00 [3]

Last night hit the San Fran night life after dinner at Karens, Fun night with ascents coming from all over the country. California, Atlantic, Boston and Brooklyn (Saturday night fever style). One bars was a true American place, Bball on the screens, dudes playing darts and pong (drinking games). basically mooseheads equivalent, it was actually a bit scary. Night finished with the locals equivalent of a kebab.. Totally wicked Pepperoni pizza slice! California style (thin crust) worth the 15min line.
Detox run aim was to get to Golden gate Park. Through Mission, Castro then up one big steep hill through Eucalyptus forest and just made it too edge of park. Back via Haight st, old hippy central and its still got the vibe. Castro and Mission.
Awesome day after yesterday, blue skys, awesome to stroll and lunch at San Frans Farmers markets... I actually had a real coffee too.

Running 32:00 [3]

Mona Fartlek down to SF Giants Stadium. Not much warm up or cool down, but thought I should try to fit something bit better in then doing another nothing run.
Did a tour to Muir Woods today and saw the amazing California Red Wood. Huge! Also forest was beautiful, it was inspiring to go Hiking (not normally my thing). Then headed to beach town of Sausalito with nice art shops and cafes. Shame weather was so bad! Poncho was useful but still needed to buy a new pair of shoes and umbrella back in town.

Thursday Mar 11, 2010 #

Running 50:00 [3]

Seriously steep hills! Managed to find a flatter route from Potrero. Down to Mission st (reminded me of Sydney rd but a Mexican version) then over to Castro the Rainbow precinct.. tights were appropriate.
Rushed to get down to Pier 33 for my morning Alcatraz visit. Very cool headphone commentary done by an old guard.
Perfect sunny day but still glade i bought my puff jacket!
Big walk back to Potrero from City centre. The amount of homeless people and dodgy feel was a bit of an eye opener. Under freeways are popular real estate, I guess its a man made shelter.

Wednesday Mar 10, 2010 #

Note

First day in SF hit the city centre, china town, pier 39, fishermans wharf and some discount designer outlet.. crazy wicked.. zoom elites for $50 Highlights of the day would have to be the Clam Chowder in a big sour dough roll and the seeing how big the golden gate really is.

Tuesday Mar 9, 2010 #

Running 45:00 [3]

Last day in LA before arvo flight to San Fran... Ran through Westwood, UCLA then up through Bel-Air. Crazy, I didn't realise houses could get that big! Didn't spot the fresh prince but I saw more tradies then residents.

Monday Mar 8, 2010 #

Running 50:00 [3]

Santa Monica, checked out pier then Run down to Venice Beach and back. Lots of "Medical" weed selling dudes and a interesting people... didn't get to see any classic bikini rollar bladers tho. Ran back Baywatch style past all the guard towers. Pretty huge beach and really nice.
Evening at Ice Hockey LA Kings smashed the Columbus Blue Jackets.. basically all over by 1st period.. but still good fun
BTW I forgot to mention... pretty sure I saw Rove at Santa Monica pier but I was too tired from the run and star struck didn't even shot.. Oi Rove!

Sunday Mar 7, 2010 #

Note

Disneyland.. The happiest place in the world! also went ot Disney california park. Huge day! lots of adrenalin.. tower of terror and big rollarcoster best at Disney california. Disneyland was just trippy... Hollywood for dinner with Thai singing elvis..hollywood was busy with oscar action, spotted a celeb just don't ask me who... then Mulholland drive on the way home to check out the views. Its one big city! or more like a few without a centre

Running 38:00 [3]

Planned rest but thought a run with Philthy Bourne couldn't be passed up. Showed him Vic park (being a footy fan) and Fitzroy. Some heavy panting in my ear by the end. Some liberation from my bitter yr 12 sports day!

Wednesday Mar 3, 2010 #

Ouch, sore and stiff from Mondays Bball and run effort so just crawed around. Checked out Fitzroy then across to Collingwood and clifton hill... not too much happening on the streets this morn.
