Orienteering race 1:07:16 [4] *** 8.0 km (8:25 / km) +150m 7:41 / km
23c shoes: Inov-8 talon212

First race back in woodhill - yay! bushrangers v pinestars test races.
generally an ok run, but not a good race. found that as long as I ran along at a comfortable pace things were all ok, but as soon as I tried to run faster I couldn't keep track of what was going on or tell what was up or down on the map. Kate ran through me on the first loop, and she was going quickly, but not super fast, but I found that there was just no way I could keep track of where I was at that speed, and sure enough, made a massive mistake as soon as I lost sight of her.
cruised around the rest of the course at my own pace (which got pretty slow on the last loop), and avoided any more major errors.

Orienteering race 17:16 [5]

Sprint race at Massey Uni.
This race was a total debacle from the start. We didn't know where to go, or when the event was meant to start, so drove around in stupid circles for ages. then eventually we found it, and the controls weren't out, so we stood around for a while before eventually being told that they were ready for us to start (about an hour late). warm ups were kept pretty short in the cold rain.
the start was tricky - the pre start was quite a distance from the start, with no instruction or taping to get there.
once we got going things improved, and it was a really tricky area for a sprint, and quite well set courses. it was all very slippery thou in the rain, and I took a fall coming into 5, (which apparently got caught on video). kept going at the time, but I'd lost a fair bit of skin off my shin and hip and busted my hand pretty well.
the next hiccup was control 7 in the wrong place - didn't waste too much time, and the nz junior I was running with said he was going to move it to the right place. The rest of the course was much less exciting. a few of the longer legs across the grass were a struggle as the mud was pretty deep. fun course in the end, but a no-race because of the miss-placed control.
