Orienteering race 47:03 [5] 5.8 km (8:07 / km) +200m 6:55 / km

Aus Relay champs. Third leg. Krystal had come back with Tash on leg 1, and Rachel ran really well on Leg 2, but thanks to the completely rubbish event layout and commentary I had no idea how much lead I might have, so was looking over my shoulder the whole way. Physically didn't feel as bad as expected, and focused on clean nav and avoiding any stupid time losses. I think I did that well - the only hesitation was picking which of the cliffs had actually made it on the map at 6. I thought the course was generally pretty good, and good fun terrain, although the last loop was too easy. The arena layout definitely let the event down. absolutely no atmosphere.

It turned out that we had a comfortable lead - great to pick up the win for the cyclones and take out the NOL comp.

Orienteering race 1:29:43 [5] 10.8 km (8:18 / km)

Aus Long champs. Big day out. I felt like I was overheating just warming up, and my priority over the early part of the course was to just not cook myself. This worked ok until we got out into the sun at 4 and I died a bit. Paid for it big time on the long leg where I completely lost contact early on - super easy spot, but I couldn't remember how many tracks I'd crossed and couldn't figure out where I was. I think I lost a fair bit of time relocating. Eventually got my shit together and took a gel when I passed a kiddie control that had water. This improved the situation a lot, and felt much better over the second part of the course. Krystal had caught me at 5, and I knew she was running a bit behind me which helped keep me focused. Managed to keep it clean through the last part of the course and finished ok.
Biggest time loss was definitely the wobble on the long leg. Other than that pretty happy with the run. Jo is amazing!

Orienteering race 14:42 [5] 3.0 km (4:54 / km)

Aus Sprint Champs. This all felt a bit rushed and I didn't feel confident in my route choice decisions. definitely took the wrong way to 2, but not sure about several others. spent a lot of time standing still trying to decipher control descriptions - was struggling to keep up and kept reading the wrong ones. calves got pretty tight at the end, but somehow I actually improved my placing over the last part of the course. fun, but I'm just not quick enough for sprint.

Running 34:00 [3]

easy run in anzac park. in something like daylight for a while, so optimistically didn't take lights.

Orienteering race 39:57 [4] 4.5 km (8:53 / km)

Aus middle champs. similar story to yesterday, except I think I had a bit more expectation. I found the map a bit harder to interpret, maybe because the features were bigger and harder to map. the run itself was a bit scrappier, and I let the big erosion push me around too much. it cost me a fair bit of time on 4, then again right at the end. finished up 3rd, but the run itself wasn't that great.

Orienteering race 38:34 [4] 4.4 km (8:46 / km)

Vic middle champs. low expectations of this as I was super tired before I started and had a bit of a dodgy tummy. started slow and carefully and just made sure I got the nav clean. really struggled on any of the running parts, and towards the end ended up running a bit with Liis which just showed up how slow I was going. turned out that not making mistakes was the key though, and ended up 2nd.
