Saturday Sep 30

Event: AUS National Championship Carnival

Orienteering race 47:18 [5]5.9 km (8:01 / km)
WA champs day 1. Wasn't really inspired by the course - it was mostly over by the time we got in to the good part. Shockingly unfit after a long holiday in europe and not much training in the last few months. oh well, at least I've got a few races to run myself into shape before next weekend.

Tuesday Sep 26

Cycling 1:35:00 [3]45 km (2:07 / km)

Sunday Sep 24

Event: QLD mountain bike champs

MTBO race (Qld Champs) 2:08:28 [5]25 km (5:08 / km) +800m 4:26 / km
Got to do the Qld MTBO champs as it got postponed from its original date (2 weeks ago, when I was still in Europe) due to a massive storm which turned the whole area into a mudbath.
I was very glad the area had dried out - it was hard enough riding without any mud.

Friday Sep 22

Cycling 1:36:00 [3]45 km (2:08 / km)
loop out to Carneys Creek and back through Mt Alford. Passed very close to a wedge-tailed eagle (they're so big!) that was standing next to the road guarding its dinner - mmm, road kill!

Thursday Sep 21

Running 40:00 [3]8 km (5:00 / km)
usual loop. boring.

Wednesday Sep 20

Cycling (road bike) 1:40:00 [3]45 km (2:13 / km)
Out through Carney's Creek and back via Mt Alford. Started a bit late and ended up doing the last 5km in the dark.

Tuesday Sep 19

Running 50:00 [3]9 km (5:33 / km)
Cruisy run up to the mt coot-tha lookout with Wendy and Pippin.
Re-fuelled afterwards with triple-cream brie, yummy!

Sunday Sep 17

Orienteering race (OY Braemar) 2:10:00 [3]12.4 km (10:29 / km) +200m 9:42 / km
Drove halfway across Queensland for an OY event on a "fantastic new area". The area was interesting, and the southern section of the map was actually quite nice (the northern part had so much fallen timber you couldn't run for more than 3 steps at a time). It was dead flat, with flat plateaus, with very steep rocky slopes in between. Unfortunately the map was a fairly abstract representation of the terrain (I guess that's what you get with no base map and no field checking), so finding the controls involved getting to the circle and searching around every rock and cliff - all made harder by the fact that the flags were hidden as far under the rocks as possible, and some were in competely the wrong place.
At least now I've seen the whole of Braemar forest and have no reason to ever return. (although with a good fire and some field checking it might actually be a fun place to orienteer).
