Orienteering race 1:24:04 [5] 11.3 km (7:26 / km) +330m 6:29 / km

NOL long distance Awoonga. Another very annoying race. made one mistake - but it was a big one. lost the plot on the way across to 5 and didn't climb enough, so got all the creeks confused. ended up relocating on the guys control on the termite mound. lost at least 5 mins on that one, and a fair bit of motivation. tried to keep the pace going for the rest, but its a bit hard when you know its all over. managed to get around the rest without any mistakes, although perhaps could have saved a bit of climb out of 13. hit the wall right at the end, and the run across to 17 was a bit of a random stagger. splits for all but 5 were pretty similar to shannons and kathryns, which just makes it more annoying.

feeling better than yesterday which was a bit surprising (and good!) after it seemed like my cold was on its way back.

pretty frustrated with the whole weekend, and not just cos I screwed up the selection trials. the orienteering was generally pretty good, and there was plenty of stuff to be happy about - I think I'm running better than I have been, and starting to get a good race-mode back; even if only for parts of the course - but nice after 18 months of battling injuries. but instead of being happy with that I'm pissed off cos of 3 bad controls. poo

Orienteering race 14:25 [5] 2.4 km (6:00 / km)

NOL sprint at CIT. Pretty clean run, but took the wrong way round the buildings on a couple of controls - 2, 7 and to the finish. still not sure about the finish one - right is shorter on the map, but 50% longer in the splits - weird.
lungs struggled with the hard running, and from about 1/3 of the way through I was feeling really short of breath. coughed up heaps of junk after though.

Orienteering race 35:32 [5] 5.3 km (6:42 / km) +115m 6:03 / km

NOL middle at wild deer sands. stuffed the first one, didn't see the termite mound under the pile of logs, so ran on, the figured I was too far and too low and ran back and saw it on the way back (1min). got the next few ok - bit of a hesitation on 3, but relocated quickly. lost another minute on 9 - ran down the gully, but lost contact a bit and turned in early. had trouble relocating, and started looking up in the white instead of down in the yellow. did a full lap of the thicket on 11, and was a bit hesitant running up into the nothing on 12. wish I could stop making dumb mistakes.
lungs felt much clearer this afternoon, but legs were a bit empty on the hills.

Running 35:00 [3]
(sick)

easy run round uni, with 3x500m to test out the legs a bit. 1.44, 1.46 and 1.45. fast enough, but still don't feel that great running.

Running 25:00 [2]
(sick)

very easy run to see if I could. legs didn't feel too bad (but I really was going slow), but lungs still felt pretty tight and clogged up.

Note

serious downside to sister being a nurse - she caught a nasty case of gastro from a patient. she's in quarantine now.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

snot-headness threatening to turn into snot-lungness, so might hold of running for another day.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

getting better (ie, going to uni), but still a bit of a snot-head. hopefully I'll be well enough to go for a little jog tomorrow.
