Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

control picking and pairs relocation (with mark, after krystal bailed) at passchendale. picking the good and bad areas is a bit random on the old passchendale map - not surprising given that its older than all bar 3 of the people on the camp! the rock mapping is still good though, and well simplified.
the area I put the control picking in turned out to be quite nice, and even mostly pretty runnable. could do with a fire through to clean out some of the fallen timber though.
the area with the relocation exercise was pretty crappy - totally infested with blackberry which made it not so fun.
foot was pretty much the same as yesterday - good that it didn't get any worse after a bit day of running. been using my newer o shoes - inov8 oroc 280s and I think the extra support in those is really good at the moment. the spikes were pretty skittish on the dry rock which made for some nervous moments

Orienteering 3:15:00 [3]

Cyclones weekend camp. dalmoak, wilmonts waterholes and brooklands paddock.
control picking at dalmoak - pretty hopeless at the start, really struggled to navigate, run, or navigate while running. too much summer rain have turned it into a grass-seed fest. started to get it together in the end. farmer John (with 2 dogs on the back of his motorbike) dropped by when we'd finished training. he was pretty keen for a long chat.

second training of the day was to check out wilmonts waterholes with Mark. its going to be where we set/control the easter prologue. the area looks great, but again has too much grass at the moment. will hope for a dry summer next year and/or a lot of cows to eat it all! mainly looking at possible assembly areas and the more interesting terrain. looks good!

third exercise was the 'night o' course at brooklands, except that everyone ran it early (in the afternoon) so they could go get some proper dinner in stanthorpe. went into some pretty vague areas and would have been really tricky at night.

made it into town for dinner (with a phone ahead to get Mat to order). pub grub in stanthorpe - all class!

Note

managed quite a lot of running on my dodgy foot - the few more weeks off seem to have done it some good. it was a bit niggly towards the end of each session, but not bad hurt like it has been. hopefully i'm all good to start training properly again now!
