Orienteering race 55:55 [5] 6.6 km (8:28 / km) +195m 7:23 / km

Club relays on a new area at Wivenhoe. It was very hot before we started and it got very unpleasant running. Most of the long course runners started in the mass start and it was a big pack run to begin with - kept together by the boys missing most of the controls at the start and Rachel, Su Yan and I being the first to find the control. The guys got ahead with a long running leg and we ended up with a little pack of girls, lead by Rachel. It was getting pretty tough to keep running - particularly on any sort of hill. By the last part of the course I was starting to feel pretty sick, but it was a flat run home. I had the extra detour through the lake, and it was hard to get out again.

A long swim post run was great to cool down.

Feet are still swollen, and have heaps of big pillow blisters. might have a few days of non-running training.

Note

Afternoon strength session - Dan had spent the day taking apart the kitchen and bathroom of the new flat, and pulling up all the carpet, so we had all that, and all the shitty furniture the previous owner left in the flat, to bring down 4 flights of stairs. We did discuss the option of hurling all over the balcony but decided the cleanup wasn't worth it (although it would have helped make it ready for the skip).

Running 1:10:00 [3]

Run from my place, with Mark and Rachel for the first bit. Legs pretty tired from yesterday, and still experimenting to see if the ankle stretches can keep the pain down. Got through the run fine, but it was a bit stiff afterwards.

Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 35.0 km (2:09 / km)

First river loop in many years, inspired by a new bike! Had to have an early start to get to work on time. One thing hasn't changed - solo river loops are still very boring!

New bike is good and comfortable. Bars are higher, which has the novelty feature of not hitting knees when climbing, but ended up spending a lot of time in the drops. Gear levers are arranged a bit differently so will need some time to adjust.

Otherwise good, and great to have a functional bike again. Thinking of plans for the old roadie. Either single speed or a two speed back pedal hub.

Running 33:00 [3]

got home late from work, but still dragged myself out for a short run. felt awful to begin with, but improved later - an interesting combination of feeling quite strong on the hills, but lacking fitness. weird.
got some new ankle pain - medial talocrural joint which seems that something is still not aligned properly. had a go on the ankle stretching machine which seemed to help quite a bit.
