Orienteering race 1:00:30 [5] 7.1 km (8:31 / km)

WMOC long final. 4th last start. I was really looking forward to this race and hoping for a good technical race. Plan was to focus on nav and try to avoid the dumb early mistakes i made in both the quals.
The course was really good and in awesome terrain. Consistently technical but fast. My run was good - a couple of small mid leg wobbles but realistically not much i could have done better. I ran as hard as i could but the body started giving out about half way. Just didn't have the fitness for the terrain. Did as much as i could and very happy to pick up the bronze.
Great carnival organised by nz and keen to race on these maps again.
Now time to finally get rid of this stupid injury and train properly again.

Orienteering 57:05 [4] 5.4 km (10:34 / km)

Long qual 2. much hillier and more detailed area today. stuffed 1 and 3 and got caught by shannon again. we picked up one of the finnish girls and ran the rest together. really fun area with big steep detailed dunes.
starting 4th last on saturday.

Orienteering race 52:32 [3] 5.7 km (9:13 / km)

WMOC Long Qual 1. goal was to cruise around but and focus on clean navigation. failed straight up at 1 where I wobbled between the dunes and went to look at a few extra controls. pretty clueless in the circle at 2 as well (after shannon passed me). got my act together after that and just plodded along at a steady pace. my hammy/glute was pretty angry after the sprint races so just ran at a very easy pace. nav for the rest was fine. finished 3rd, 3mins behind Shannon.

run to and from the model arena from the car, and 20mins around a few controls at the model. legs pretty heavy.

Orienteering race 15:53 [5] 3.0 km (5:18 / km)

WMOC Spint Final. last starter after qualifying fastest yesterday. surprised at how nervous I was at the start, and legs had actually felt great warming up - but that usually means they're slow and heavy running. That was exactly what happened, and with a bunch of fast easy controls in the park I felt super slow. got going a bit once I got into the buildings, but still managed to take the wrong route choices on nearly all of the short legs - but at least I didn't hesitate, so I don't think I lost too much time. I think the key to the course was the long leg from the top of the uni campus, through the tunnel down to the spectator control, and I picked my route for this really quick and was able to run it confidently. I caught Shannon a couple of short legs later and we were together to the finish.
awesome to take the win, and very surprised to be ahead of Shannon in two sprint races (not sure that has happened before!).
