orienteering 1:03:00 [3]

Vic long champs. One horrible error mid course when I went into the green earlier than I should have. Worked out what had gone wrong pretty quickly but still cost 3-4 minutes extricating myself. Also lost 40 secs on no 1'when came across a really big slab of bare rock that was tiny on the map. Still ntb considering how little orienteering I've done. Fitness nowhere near where it needs to be but coming along.

Vic champs middle. Pretty scruffy run. Started and finished ok but had troubles in the middle getting from the attackpoint to the control. Lost time being distracted by others too

After not running since October last year I started getting back into it very slowly in May. Have been able to train relatively consistently since then, albeit at a geriatric pace and over minuscule distances.

Thought I'd put down a marker in a 5k race today. Was hoping for something in the 20.30-21.00 range.

Had no idea how fast to run and didn't have a watch. Took off way too fast, and first saw a clock at the start/finish going through 2k on about 18.45 pace. Unsurprisingly the wheels started to fall off at about 3k, lights bumper bars and doors at 4k, and engine seized up at 4.5. Limped over the line in 19.52. Still, happy with that.

Finished 2nd and 1st veteran. Standards ain't what they used to be, although anyone who was any good was running the 10k or half marathon. Think I won some socks but didn't stay to collect them.
