Turned out to be a nice day after all! 6 x 30 seconds strides in the middle of the run with a variable amount of time in between. I may have eaten too much cookie dough before this run though...

Orienteering 2:24:27 [1]

VICO event at East Sooke Park. Perhaps this training would have been more aptly categorized as swimming (through salal) or rock climbing up large cliffs. I was running the expert/elite course, but bailed after being out for 2 hours. Not particularly hard orienteering, but just ridiculously, epically thick forests. One control was just directly up a 120m hill. I had considered continuing on, but at one point could just not physically get through the salal and decided that was sufficient bush whacking for the day. Kate and I were together for most of the course. There were some nice coastal views. Very sunny day though followed up by the most delicious meal at chez Saari.

Tried out Stand Up Paddle Boarding! Was pretty fun and at least the water was warm to fall into. It was an hour lesson/paddle around Jericho.

Run with 5 x 30 second strides thrown in in random spacings. Around QE park again. Super thirsty because I may have gotten over excited eating when I saw that Costco sells gluten-free pizza last night, which then resulted in me spilling water all over myself and bed this morning.

Flow Class at the Y again. Didn't seem quite as hard as last time. Our instructor tried to get us to do this intense balance/strength pose but people were mostly just crumpling or tipping over.

I spent most of the weekend moving and unpacking (and eating, but that's unrelated), which means a new neighbourhood to explore. Ran up to Queen Elizabeth Park which was nice because there were lots of pretty flower gardens. I will need to be cautious to not get smoked by a frisbee golf disc in the future though.

Potentially last game of the season! We weren't doing so swell at the beginning, but managed to pick it up at the end. Their girls were speedy, so lots of running. I had a couple of good catches! Yay being useful.

WCOC Long. Oh boy, that was a struggle. I seemed how have the hardest time finding any of the paths (and then got lazy with my compass and headed up going the wrong way around a very big hill) and got very distracted by Meghan and Andrea for a couple of controls. Once I was on my own, I started to orienteer much better again although I was physically very tired. It's good to get practice on a 1:15,000 map!

WCOC Middle. I was quite pleased with my race. I should have taken a safer route to number one because hesitating lost me quite a lot of time. In general though, things went well. I had a plan before leaving each control, used my compass, and kept my head up.

Orienteering 1:32:51 [3]

COC Long. Super pleased with my race. After my less than stellar last two races, I just decided to take it slow, have a plan, use my compass religiously, and stay in contact with the map. Most of the controls went very smoothly, with a couple of ones with hesitations (especially going down hills with no real attack point). Had a tough time physically pushing it, but it seemed like having a relatively error-free run was a better strategy for the day. Had a lot of fun out there!

COC Sprint. Really enjoyed myself out there, but definitely got trapped. I thought I had some better flow towards the end of the race (it might have helped that Pam was chasing me down). I do need to be more careful about reading all the way through the route.

COC Middle. A lot of struggling and inefficiency. The good news is that I was pretty good at stopping when things weren't making sense to relocate, but the bad news is that this was happening quite often. I really liked the terrain, but need to make sure I was using my compass more. Seeing Carol multiple times out there also was a bit distracting.
