Hiking 2:00:00 [1]

Up to Mount Seymour (via First Pump and Second Pump/Tim Jones Peak) with Oscar. We're leveling up in Operation Outdoorsify Oscar :) Such a beautiful clear day. This hike definitely has some stunning views of the city, Indian Arm, and then the many many Coastal mountains behind it. We could even see Baker. It was fairly busy, but not uncomfortably so. I think it took us just over 4 hours, but this included stops and breaks at all the peaks. The trail guide says is 9km return with 450m of elevation gain. It was fairly rocky getting up, so we were a little slow getting down. Would recommend on a nice day!

Running 22:12 [1] 3.1 km (7:10 / km)
shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

I'm trying to be good and not get too injured with running. My physio recommended doing 1 minute walking, 1 minute running for 3km, and then building up the running portion after every 3 "runs" to get to running the 3km continuously. Let's see how this goes. One minute of running is barely enough to break a sweat, although it was kind of nice because my belly was still a little too full of curry when I went out. My feet are currently taped, and I was using my new orthotics and added a heel lift for my left side as apparently, it's about 6mm shorter than my right (who knows if that's a permanent thing, or just cause my hips are all funky and twisted and not level).

Pilates 40:00 [2]

Pilates isn't really an accurate description. It was a Lagree workout, which is more like Pilates on steroids. There is the sliding platform of death called the megaformer, and pretty much something was burning for all 40 minutes. I can't imagine spending $35 for a class though...

Swimming 21:00 [1] 0.82 km (25:37 / km)

Swimming at Kits pool. I don't even remember the last time I swam laps in a pool. On the first lap, I didn't realize it was 137 metres, so might have started a little too fast! Mix of freestyle and breaststroke.

Hiking 2:00:00 [2]

Hiking up to Mount Strachan in Cypress Park (my first time doing it). Trail guide says that it is a 10.5km loop and 550m of elevation gain, but we got a little lost on the way down and had to bushwack down to a parallel trail. It took us about 1.5 hours to get up, and then I wasn't paying attention to the time on the way down (maybe 1.5 hours as well). The views are super nice from up top, and a little quieter than hikes like Eagle Bluffs or St. Mark's Summit. Fairly steep on the way up, but do-able. Enjoyed the views for quite a long time at the time. There were some bugs if you stopped on the trail, but fortunately none at the top. I wore my hiking boots with my orthotics for the first. They seemed fine, until I took them off and found very fluid-filled blisters on the side of my feet (but not painful, weird). Beautiful day out!

Biking 1:00:00 [1] 22.0 km (2:44 / km)

Biking the 8.5km Arbutus Greenway and back with Oscar. It was a lovely day out! The trail was pleasantly busy (as in it's nice to see people using it, but you could really bike at whatever pace you want and not run into people). Some of the street crossings are a little weird, but overall it's quite a nice path! Manages to avoid a lot of steep climb too. So many blackberries along the path and some very colourful flowers near Marine Drive. Biking time has been shortened as we were mostly just cruising along. Lovely day out!

Note

Would highly recommend watching the documentary Icarus (on Canadian Netflix at least), which is about the Russian doping scandal.

Zumba 1:00:00 [1]

Zumba! Time to shake those hips and shimmy those shoulders. Looked fairly foolish, but enjoyed myself. The instructor was super enthusiastic, which was fun.

Kickboxing 1:00:00 [2]

Women's only kickboxing class at DCS Combat Sports. Fun! They focused a lot on technique, and had a lot of trainers around to help out and hold pads. Still had us moving a lot though, so it was pretty tiring and sweaty. The beginners were separated out to go over the main moves. When we got to the kicking portion, he was impressed at how hard I could kick. Guess I haven't forgotten all my taekwondo technique despite it being over 10 years ago. There are so many fun niche fitness things to do in Vancouver, but they're all so expensive.

Biking 45:00 [3]

Spin class at Cyklus. They have cool screens that show you all sorts of stats. I liked the instructor and music, and it felt good to work hard.

Other (Kayaking ) 20:00 [1]

Kayaking at Rocky Point as a social for my grad department. We were out for 2 hours, but we did a lot of "enjoying the moment". Saw a couple of seals!

Pilates 1:00:00 [3]

Booty Pilates class at Dharma Movement Company. The instructor said she took it easy on us, but I was feeling it! Trying to activate those glutes!

Strength 45:00 [1]

Classpass offered me the same half of three months promo again. Except I had to get it right before I left, so the next week is busy to use up all 5 classes for this cycle. This class was at Movement 108 studio. It was mostly a kettle bell workout. I quite like this studio, small glasses and a lot of emphasis on form and functional movements. Walked there and back too (about 2km each way).
