Hiking 3:40:13 [1] 10.38 km (21:13 / km) +424m 17:37 / km
ahr:108 max:165 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 12

I did a weird split day of work to sneak in a hike with Bryn who is in town visiting. Since it was supposed to be rainy, I picked Big Cedar and Kennedy Falls as I've never done it and the two main attractions are a tree and a waterfall, which are both just as good in the rain as without. I'm glad there wasn't a lot of climb. It was a pretty nice hike. Very well signed and not super steep. I'm a little surprised my Garmin put the climb at 425m when the trail guides say 150m... It actually didn't rain that much, but our feet got soaked by the like 10 different stream crossings (plus coming back). Fortunately it wasn't too muddy, just wet. Would be fun to trail run if I was stronger and more nimble, I think.

Biking 38:18 [3] 14.49 km (2:39 / km)
ahr:156 max:179

Power Class at Cyklus with Oscar. It was a nice workout tonight. No max watts tests, which was good. I don't mind doing them, but don't like doing them every time. Need to make sure that I'm fitting in 2-3 spin classes per week to make volunteering there worth it. Classes are starting to get a bit busier with the rain.

Run/Walk 32:17 [2] 4.9 km (6:35 / km) +7m 6:33 / km
ahr:154 max:173 shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

6 x 4 minutes run and 1 minute walk. We were supposed to be focusing on cadence. I possibly have slightly too slow of a cadence so will try to think of that. Our numbers were up tonight, which is good. There was another Emily. :) Really nice evening! Bracing myself for the rain to start, but really not ready!

Dragon boating 15:00 [1] 4.8 km (3:07 / km)
ahr:92 max:135

Working on technique and rotating our body. We did a little mock race with another boat but we were so bad with timing our coach stopped us midway through our start. Oops. Absolutely beautiful day out! Out on the boat for 1.5 hours.

Run/Walk 16:03 [1] 2.25 km (7:08 / km) +14m 6:55 / km
ahr:146 max:194 shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

Coming home along the Seawall from dragon boating. Walk 1 jog 1. Clearly something was a little messed up with my heart rate as I don't think I hit 194... Time to go vote (1 mayor, 10 city councillors, 9 school board, and 7 park board)!

Biking 40:02 [3] 16.3 km (2:27 / km)
ahr:155 max:184

Groove Ride at Cyklus. I’m enjoying the after work spin class on Fridays. The hard bit of the workout was 3 x 3 minutes. It was tough! Small class today with generally strong riders. It was one one of my favorite instructors, but she's going away soon for the winter.

Hiking 4:40:59 [1] 15.57 km (18:03 / km) +1120m 13:16 / km
ahr:125 max:171 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 12

My really good friend from undergrad, Leah, was in town today, so I took the day off to do an adventure with her! We started off going to St. Mark's Summit, but it only took us an hour and a half so decided to carry on to Mount Unnecessary (Unnecessary Mountain?). It was such a gorgeous day and the views were much better than the time Kate and I did the Howe Sound Crest Trail, haha. There were some fairly aggressive birds who were vying for our lunch. Finished it off with some recovery bubble tea. :) Only counted moving time. We were out for about 6 hours.

Run/Walk 31:54 [3] 4.4 km (7:15 / km) +10m 7:10 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 17

Hey look, I went for a run! I've joined a running clinic at Allan McGavin Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy in an attempt to get me running again and hopefully progressing in a safe manner that doesn't cause any lower leg flare-ups. Had a pretty small group tonight for the first session, but everyone seemed nice. We did 8 x 3 minute jog and 1 minute walk intervals. Nice night! Forgot my Garmin but just used Strava on my phone. It said I had 110m of elevation but that's pretty much impossible on that stretch of the seawall.

Biking 40:02 [3] 15.6 km (2:34 / km)
ahr:155 max:189

Power Cycle class with Shelley. Had to do 2 sets of 3 x 1 minute intervals that were pretty exhausting! Spin classes are definitely a good mental toughness training. Nice to break up the day with some exercise.

Hiking 4:55:44 [1] 20.83 km (14:12 / km) +796m 11:55 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 12

Hike up to Elfin Lakes with Anna, Marco, Jen, and Oscar. It was a beautiful day for it--blue skies and sunny and warmer than expected. Had a nice picnic lunch at the lakes before heading back down. Haven't done this hike in about 6 years I think! The road is definitely a little bit rough for Lola the Corolla, but kind of doable. About 6 hours including lunch.

Biking 43:06 [3] 16.8 km (2:34 / km)
ahr:156 max:184

Spin class at Cyklus. Was feeling pretty tired before going there, but glad I went. It was a new instructor. He was pretty good and did a fun race simulation at the end. And afterwards, someone in the changing room commented on how high my watts were!

Kickboxing 1:00:00 [2]

A friend (Marco) asked Oscar and I to go to a beginner muay thai kickboxing class at DCS combat sports. It was pretty fun! My kicking is definitely a lot stronger than my punching and elbow-ing. They only had one instructor for a pretty big class, so I think it would have been helpful to have at least one more person to help out the people who were new.

Biking 27:00 [3]

Went to a TRX Fusion class at Cyklus. We did 9 minute sets, rotating between the bike and the TRX straps. It was pretty fun and a nice way to break up the work out. Still feeling pretty fatigued from last week's sickness and have some junk in my lungs, but good to get moving again.

Strength 27:00 [1]

Strength portion of the TRX spin work out. Mix of legs, push, pull and core.
