Note

New blog post, it goes over my first days in Switzerland, with maps that you can see! I'm currently in Jura at and will be doing a middle distance race tomorrow
12 PM

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 6.3 km (11:07 / km) +200m 9:35 / km

Forgot my GPS at the camp

We did intervals in the forest about every 3-5 controls. Maps will be posted in Jura Training Camp Part 2

Fairly dense forest with most of the trails being logging trails so they were obvious but hard to run on. We had a little bit of a fright when Anton was stung by a bee and he started having troubles breathing... but we made it home!

I worked too much on planning ahead and not enough on keeping track of where I was so several times I messed up because of running by turning points or controls.

I need to continue to work on a better balance.

Orienteering 36:22 [3] 4.4 km (8:16 / km) +149m 7:04 / km

A slow run to get a feel for the terrain that we would be running in. I needed to work on focusing on one control at a time and having better checkpoints instead of just navigating as I went.

Orienteering 1:01:27 [3] 7.8 km (7:53 / km) +118m 7:19 / km

Compass training. It was way out of my league, but I did a really good job at taking the right bearings, just not on pace counting, and so I stopped short on pretty much every control.

Orienteering 24:25 [3] 5.3 km (4:36 / km) +13m 4:33 / km

Very fluid sprint training. There were 3 intervals that I did and rested about 2-3 minutes after each one. Very cool corridors which tested how quickly that I could keep track of where I was going.

Great start!

The forest was extremely dense and it had rained a lot so you almost had to walk along the side of hills
