Hooray for the city bike subscription, but boy is it hard work shifting these monsters uphill into a headwind.

Battersea Park race

It was overall mostly fun as the park is surprisngly tricky and has some beautiful hidden glades and rock features and allsorts.

I was totally cooked from 90 mins running on Sunday plus 30 mins cycling there plus not much sleep last night plus work

The planning was sketchy to say the least, with 2 controls in the wrong place, a few more very hidden ones and some routes that looked passable on the map but were not on the ground. It was also pretty dark out from the rain which made the map hard to see despite the magnifier.

Unusually it took me a good few controls to get into this whole “don’t take things at face value” thing by which time I’d probably lost a minute or so. Then the rest was as smooth as circumstances allowed with another minute gone on the 2 wrong controls.

I didn’t do nearly as badly as I thought, and it was good to be out orienteering again. Looking forward to a few days off now and then the Aldershot urban race on Saturday.
