Bydalen 50k
Great experience, very windy, beautiful and dramatic mountain scenery but unfortunately had a hard time with reflux /indigestion from around 13k. It really limited my effort, and after feeling poor for 2 and half hours, and with weather coming in I pulled the plug at 30k. A good choice in hindsight. Will have to really practise eating/drinking for any future long runs like this. I think yhat I ate too much. Otherwise everything went well and I can imagine having another crack at something like this in the future.
Some ideas for next time:
- Long sleeved thermal top would have been ideal, or possibly some removable sleeves. I ran in a merino t-shirt, but had my waterproof jacket on almost the entire time due to windchill on my arms.
- need to do some really long runs as preparation (ie 4+ hours), just as much to get my eating and drinking strategy sorted out as for the training.
- training walking up steep, long climbs. Hard to to do in Stockholm, maybe a training weekend or two away in the mountains would be nice.
- do more running strength exercises. Again to help with the hills.
