Running intervals (Fartlek (Short)) 59:00 [4]
shoes: Ascics Gel 1120

Missed the squad session today as I had to organise some house stuff but still tried to smash out the same session as the other guys did. Warm up then did (effort/float) 1/2 2/2 3/4 4/4 3/2 2/2 1/Warm down. trying to really push the 4 minute efforts in the middle and the final 1 minute in order to simulate the final lap of an 800m race. Was absolutely stuffed by the end of it.

Other big news is that I've been picked to race the 800m for ACT in the Australia Cup in Brisbane in 2 weekends time where I can hopefully put together a good PB in what will be a very strong field.

Swimming (Recovery) 38:00 [3] 1.0 km (38:00 / km)

Wow, I haven't swum laps in so many years that I almost drowned on my first lap. Battled slowly through 20 laps and decided to call it a day - might go for a nice run or ride tonight as well.

Running race (Interclub 800m) 1:56 [5] 0.8 km (2:25 / km)
shoes: Asics Turbo Phantom

This was one of the best track races I think I've ever raced.

I got to the track very late due to really terrible traffic and by the time I'd registered had only time for a 5 minute warm-up. Had a chat with Ted before the race who said I should take it out easy and then push hard from just before the bell and then really smash the last 250m.

From the start there was an instant breakaway group of 3 runners in which I was at the back - and the pace was really fast. At the bell the time was 56 (I was aiming for 1:03) and I could feel myself getting dropped as the whole group spread out. Around the bend I stayed within touching distance of the guy in 2nd who started fading and then burned him coming onto the back straight. From there I just focused on getting technique right and giving it everything and I found myself, along the back straight and final bend quickly closing the 15m gap that the leading runner had made. Coming out into the final straight he could tell I was coming fast but couldn't respond as I sprinted past him to win in 1:56.2 - a 4 second PB!

Running warm up/down 45:00 [3]

Warmup/down for both races and in just keeping warm in-between

Running race (ACT 5000m Champs) 16:02 [5] 5.0 km (3:12 / km)
shoes: Asics Turbo Phantom

Decided at the last minute that I would contest the ACT 5000m champs but was still pretty stuffed from the 800m earlier in the afternoon.

The first half of the race went well as I stayed in a group with Julian through until about lap 6 or 7. After that though I was pretty much done, the legs were heavy and the body was sagging as I battled through the second half of the race.

Finished 4th in the race and was pretty happy with the time (a PB) so not too much to complain about - except the sore legs I'm going to be feeling tomorrow.

Running (Easy Run) 42:00 [3]
shoes: Ascics Gel 1120

Easy run at Dickson Playing Fields just to stretch the legs before tomorrows 800m at interclub. Felt pretty good and am hoping to (finally) break 2mins tomorrow night

Drove back to Canberra from Newcastle - planned on a run when I got home but was just too tired so had another day off
