Last Sprint Canberra race with reverse chasing start at ANU. Familiarity with the area bred confidence for this one although plan was to take it a bit easier early on in the race as I noticed my errors in the last 4 days seemed to correspond with later in the course when I was fatigued and concentration was harder to maintain. Consequently more map contact early on and a rhythm a little slower than past days but only a little. Could see Blair and a Goonan ahead on long leg so knew gained some time although never caught them. Refocussed well when losing concentration and held it together to the end for best run of the week. Good way to end.

Big well done to Lazy Dave for concept and organisation. Take a bow and then a rest Dave!

DIdnt want to play tonight as shattered from weekend however plenty of team mates bailed so played. Also Fat Rat done huge riding effort on weekend and was still playing so was partly shamed into it. One of those times though when you drag yourself out the door and it turns out brilliant. Only 5 of us (no subs) and we still got beaten comprehensively but we played really well and made a real game of it. Enjoyable. Shattered when i got home.

4 PM

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [2] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Yellow ones

Long uphill jog to the start where Jimbo and I showed just what 'crocs' we are.
5 PM

Orienteering race 22:39 intensity: (1:05 @0) + (1:11 @1) + (9 @2) + (21 @3) + (8:13 @4) + (11:40 @5) 3.35 km (6:46 / km) +68m 6:08 / km

Remembrance Park. Hagaby loop race where started with Jimbo and we each did the loops in opposite order. Short loop first where overshot 3rd, not used to scale. Longer loop was hesitant on downhill terrain running to longer leg but got a wriggle on to stick with a Neve (Max?) and Toph when they came past. Got to pivot control just behind Jim and gained a little on him to the spectator run through and pivot. Although oddly every time I looked at Jim I thought he was running very slowly but I didnt gain on him? ;) Got confused with the lines out of run through pivot and worked it out only to 'unwork it out' about half way to the first control on the loop. consequently ran 3 controls of the loop in backwards, even overshooting the last (first) as I was realising what I had done. Turned round and ran them forwards but damage was done. Jimbo got me by 50s or so. Annoyed but orienteering continuing to improve with racing.

Orienteering race 23:51 intensity: (1:45 @1) + (11 @2) + (28 @3) + (5:59 @4) + (15:28 @5) 4.13 km (5:47 / km) +34m 5:33 / km

Sprint Canberra at CSIRO. My first time running there and a ripper little area it is. Concentrated much better today and made a point of planning legs. Ran well till 2nd bush control when got my angle/compass wrong and distance even wronger going way past control. First time ever I've tried to re-locate off a homeless guy and his camp/humpy. Probably lost close to 2mins. Got back on course rest of the run and tried to hang on to Craney and Bruce when they came past which helped although I was getting scrappy with fatigue at the end.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Adidas Boston Orange!

decent warm up and then cool down with Jimbo where we watched GrantM and Kazza show good form in the subsequent race. MaryMacs form was less good.

Orienteering race 15:48 intensity: (58 @1) + (6 @2) + (29 @3) + (1:44 @4) + (12:31 @5) 2.59 km (6:05 / km) +19m 5:53 / km
ahr:165 max:176 shoes: Adidas Boston Orange!

Second Sprint Canberra, this time at Radford College. Mass start and at end of first leg the one punch stand meant I was about 49th out of 50, although I probably got to the stand about 40th. After similar numbers at controls 2 and 3 ended in a group with Ollie, Blair and Jimbo although after splitting we separated. Usual sense of rushing at Radford. Jimbo finished 5s ahead of me and Blair probably 10s behind. (NB started watch 40s or so early).

ahr:163 max:171 shoes: Adidas Boston Orange!

First Sprint Canberra race at AIS. Caught JLA early (mainly because 30s start gap allowed me to use her as a sighter) but unfortunately we ran into sportsfield area with massive uncrossable fence at the end of it. there was a gate marked which i was hoping was open but was not. Lost probably 3minutes i.e. disaster.
