Running 10:00 [1]

Was planning on heading out to Canoe Creek behind the industrial park to start the fieldwork on that map, but unfortunately plans changed...

My entire family (except Jonathan who stayed home, and Lillian who is out camping) went out to Eagle Bay for the day to enjoy the beach and fix the dock that was missing some boards, and had broken one of the two connections with the chain that holds it in place in the last windstorm. Unfortunately, they forgot the screws to fix the dock, needed an extra 6 foot rod of galvanized steel, eight 6 inch 5/8ths bolts, and two 6 foot two-by-fours. So I drove out to Eagle Bay instead, went shopping on the way, and dropped off the stuff. Was delayed by paving on the way out, and the way back, so knew there was insufficient time to make a mapping trip worthwhile.

So I decided to go for a run at Balmoral Trailhead instead and see if it was worth mapping (seeing as we have the raw LiDAR data for the area). I get 5 minutes in, come around a corner, and BOOM right there, mama black bear and baby black bear. Slowly backed off and ended up cutting the run very short. First bears I've seen this year.

(rest day)

Feeling a little run down today, so figured I'd take the day off.

Tennis 1:00:00 [1]

Played tennis (for the first time in around 7-8 years) with Dad, Lillian, and Simon today. They have been going out a lot recently, as they all have memberships this year.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Running 1:19:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @1) + (14:00 @3) + (4:00 @4) + (1:00 @5)

Ski practice with the ski team. 10 minute warm-up, then some accelerations and sprints. Then ran out into Little Mountain, and did 2x4 minutes (zone 3), 2x3 minutes (zone 3), 2x2 minutes (zone 4) hill bounding intervals. Went very easy on the first one, wasn't quite sure how the legs would take it, but was feeling good so actually went into around zone3 and zone4 for the rest of the intervals.

(Actually remembered that I needed to bring the Garmin, but couldn't find it!)

Core Strength 10:00 [1]

Strength 1:20:00 [1]

Strength with the ski team for the first time in around 6 months. It hurt, but was good.

Paddling 1:20:00 [1]

Easy paddle from Oma and Opa's east down Shuswap arm to Eagle Bay Bible camp and back. Wind picked up a bit on the way back, so got a bit more of a workout than expected.
5 PM

Paddling 15:00 [2]

Got pretty wavy with some whitecaps out on the lake, so went back out in the kayak to enjoy the waves. Got swamped as I was coming back in. Glad I came in when I did though, as it developped into the largest waves I have ever seen on Shuswap lake. Tore several boards off the dock.

Note
(rest day)

Starting back into work today (and yesterday a bit). Working on a downtown Revelstoke map right now. Slightly concerned about traffic in parts of it, but otherwise it looks like it will be a blast when finished!

Running 44:41 [3] 5.51 km (8:07 / km) +290m 6:25 / km

Easy run with the ski team at Park Hill. Nice to get back out and stretch the legs. They are feeling much better today.

Paddling 52:12 [3] 3.95 km (13:14 / km) +8m 13:05 / km

Easy paddle. Steady wind from the north east, so very little smoke and nice waves. A couple of smaller whitecaps. The lake is so nice and warm compared with Finnish lakes.
