Mapping 5:21:25 intensity: (4:00:00 @0) + (1:21:25 @1) 10.55 km (30:27 / km) +366m 25:57 / km

Mount MacPherson Mapping in Revelstoke. Hot day out. Started at Griffith Creek parking lot, then went down to the next logging road down and back up again. Unfortunately the worst terrain on the entire mountain is right near the parking lot, so gonna have to figure that out for the course setting. Should be challenging at any rate. Hopefully can get out there on Saturday again and finish up to Beaver Lake to allow more course options espescially for beginners. Lots and lots of terrain to eventually map on the far side of the powerlines too.

Orienteering 1:57:07 [3] 11.2 km (10:27 / km)

So, incredibly hot. Really not used to summer yet. Decent run, a couple of routechoices that could have been better, and then totally botched up 16 (stopped a re-entrant too early). Overall pretty good though. All the timing actually worked today with only minor glitches!

Blog post with Rachel for HPP Blog coming shortly (within a week hopefully).

Event: Sage Stomp

11 AM

Orienteering 32:31 [3] 3.2 km (10:10 / km)

Distance from map, no GPS all weekend.

Totally distracted by timing snaffus (is that a word and if so how do you spell it?) and dehydrated today.

First 6 controls were good, but after that was just running too fast in the technical contour stuff. Gotta learn to slow down when I have to.
3 PM

Orienteering 47:33 [3] 4.2 km (11:19 / km)

Middle at Sage Stomp.

Very, very bad race. Didn't have lunch until 2:00 because of timing problems, rather dehydrated and hot.

Running was just really, really slow. Walked a lot. Took the options with the least climb. Not used to the heat. Gotta do more interval training.

Learned not to let yourself get distracted by other stuff and to focus on the race at hand.

Running 42:00 [1] 4.83 km (8:42 / km) +242m 6:58 / km

Easy run with the Ski Team at Park Hill.

Paddling 53:44 [1] 4.66 km (11:31 / km) +11m 11:23 / km

Easy paddle across the lake to check out the mudslide that took out a couple houses. Pretty impressive.

Mapping 5:26:54 intensity: (4:00:00 @0) + (1:26:54 @1) 14.4 km (22:42 / km) +301m 20:33 / km

Mapping in Revelstoke at Mount MacPherson. Gonna be out here for the next week of so (except for Sage Stomp...), but event next weekend which I only started the map for today... not exactly great planning, but so it goes.

Absolutely love this terrain! It simply does not get better than this, open forest, rock features (so many cliffs!), water, cool contour stuff, a bit of thicker vegetation in places to spice things up, and a trail network of varying density which is great for all course difficulties. So much fun.

Anyways, if you are around that weekend (the event is Sunday), it is totally worth coming out.

Orienteering 40:00 [1]

Setting out and picking up flags for the POLE class for their orienteering classes. Some of them really got it and enjoyed it. One kid who moved here from Victoria has actually done it with the cadet program out there. Seen an SI and everything.
