Running 1:00:10 intensity: (59:10 @1) + (1:00 @5) 10.04 km (5:59 / km) +273m 5:16 / km

Easy run in the dark while listening to an Audiobook. Having trouble making running on my own feel enjoyable rather than a task, this seemed to help. I don't really enjoy running the same places over and over again, which is part of why I like orienteering so much - it's different every time and keeps my head engaged, not constantly looking at my GPS. I feel like I have exhausted all the running options and combinations of those options around where I live, which has taken some of the joy out of running. The audiobook seemed to help, so will probably do that next time as well.

The bottom of my right foot started hurting again just a little ways into my run, so going to have to be more diligent on the stretching bit - I've slacked off a bit on it lately, mostly rolling out my back due to the studying crunch this week.

Did some more UBCO mapping today, central campus core is now done, just need to do some fieldwork around EME for the new transit exchange. Almost done lower cascades as well, just around 15 minutes left.

Threw together another contours + trails map for an area (unfortunately of private land I believe) for tomorrow that is within running distance, so planning on a long run with some orienteering stuff. Hopefully doesn't snow too much tonight, otherwise that plan will get delayed.

Note

Figured after two midterms I could take an afternoon/evening off school so...

Lots of mapping later in the afternoon and evening. Started off working on collecting data sets for the Larch Hills Nordic Ski Area where we are working on planning some new trails. Brought in private land boundaries, regional district boundaries, provincial park boundaries, and a DEM. Need to bring in trails next.

Prepped a map in Kamloops with the Sage O-Club logo and website and legend and border stuff for the Kamloops search and rescue who are using the map this coming weekend for a training exercise, so should get some good promo to their members - who knows if we'll get anybody out of it, but certainly can't hurt.

Switched over to continue the re-map UBCO - still have more of the map left to do than I thought I did, but I'm through most of the time consuming technical areas now.

Skiing - Skate 1:00:05 [1] 12.65 km (4:45 / km) +362m 4:09 / km

After the midterms managed to catch a ride with Alexander up to Telemark and go skate skiing on actual groomed trail for the first time in around a month. Lots of fun, went around Telemark and Panorama Ridge for the first time, nice views, but a little bit cloudy today so couldn't see as much as I expect you would on a sunny day.

Was feeling hungry, so went back to the lodge and had a snack.

Skiing - Skate 26:00 [1] 5.29 km (4:55 / km) +140m 4:20 / km

Part 2.

After the snack went out to ski some more, was expecting around 45 minutes based on how long Alexander was planning on skiing for, but ran into him as he came back into the stadium - he was hungry too, so only another 25 minutes before we went back to UBCO.

Note

Study day - a midterm and a quiz tomorrow morning.

Armchair-O 15:00 [0]

Initial scoping out of JWOC sprint terrain on google earth and streetview. Fairly large area embargoed, but only a couple of potential arena locations, so I think I know what part I want to map from the couch if I can't find an old map. Hoping to split the mapping up between HPP members, so we can map the entire area and do some practice armchair-o on it.

Back tightening up again. Too much lab writing apparently. Next up studying for Midterms on Thursday.

Frustration removal run - having trouble with a chem lab, hopefully I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Skiing - Classic 1:03:14 [1] 7.02 km (9:00 / km) +150m 8:08 / km

Well... I gambled and lost. It's been snowing pretty much non-stop here for the past day or so, and there is lots of fresh snow everywhere, so I didn't really feel like going for a run. Skate skiing sounded even worse, so I opted for classic. Unfortunately, when I came down to Kelowna, I only grabbed grip waxes that we had duplicates of in Salmon Arm - namely Swix VR 40, VR45, and VR50 - all waxes that work in various parts of the range from -12°C to ~ 1°C temperatures depending on snow conditions. Today the weater said 0°C, so I tried VR50 and hoped for the best, but snow was really wet and warm - and I had pretty much no grip. Bit of a slog on some fields and my new favourite road that is under construction. Rather boring skiing, so listened to the second half of Hamilton while skiing.

Here is the view from the middle of one of the farmers fields (which oddly enough UBCO actually owns, but isn't planning on developing for another ~30 years or so). https://www.instagram.com/p/Beg0p4XFgIv/?taken-by=...

Running 34:00 [1] 5.06 km (6:43 / km) +130m 5:57 / km

Run over to Coyote Ridge park.

Orienteering 45:00 [2] 3.24 km (13:53 / km) +186m 10:47 / km

Well this was exciting ... about knee deep snow everywhere, trails were semi-packed with only around4 inches of snow so they were much faster. min/km can only get better from here!

Or if the image doesn't work, a direct link.

So I started from control 1 (I ran up the trail from the South to get there, so skipped the climb from the start), and learned very quickly that this was going to be interesting. I hadn't realized there was this much snow, although under the trees was decent in places. Orienteering was kind of sub-par, but hard to stay focused when I'm going a measly 15min/km. This map should be a blast once the snow melts, lots of great big cliffs, beautiful open pine forest. Will be happy to get back here once the snow melts, but will probably hold off until then.

Running 32:57 [1] 4.87 km (6:46 / km) +114m 6:03 / km

Run back home.
