Easy 20 minute shake out with the pups. Felt good - still a bit of a cough, but otherwise it was a nice run.

5km NPS Turkey Trot

Notes: Went out conservative to see who the competition was. Right hip flexor was a little tight and since the marathon is in 2 weeks I didn't want to overdo anything. Two girls were ahead of me so I just worked on catching them and hoped to out kick them at the end. With just one last hill to go they turned around and saw me on their heels and sprinted to the end. Ended up coming in second for women with a new course PB, which I'm happy with.

Nice bit of yoga before bed. Definitely feeling tight in the right hip flexor. Hoping this will help loosen things up to race a 5k tomorrow after work. Should have been doing more yoga all along.

Easy 45 minute run with the dogs

Notes: Nice little run with the dogs. Felt good to burn off some steam at the end of a hectic day at work. Upper back is sore and has been off and on all day. Just generally feeling under the weather and fatigued. Looking forward to having next week off to recover.

Nice ride out to Asilomar to see the sunset then rode to Trader Joe's for groceries and back home again. Legs are feeling pretty good considering I raced yesterday, but don't want to push anything too soon after since I've got another tough run this weekend.

Notes: I am very happy with how this went! I hit a PB that was 10 minutes faster than what I ran in the same race last year. I completely emptied the tank today. I think this was the closest I've ever been to vomiting at the finish line from effort and complete exhaustion.
I wish I had gotten in front of my corral at the start because I think I lost a decent amount of time trying to get around all the slower people in front of me. There was a huge grid lock at the start and I wasted energy weaving trying to get in front of it. Once things spread out, the race was smooth. They didn't have a very clear halfway mark, so I was left guessing where the halfway point was and what my splits were.
Increased the effort once I was sure I was past the halfway point. Right hip flexor started to give with about 7km left to go but I pushed through. The last 2km HURT like nothing I've ever felt before. I wish I had just a little extra kick in those 2km, since I was so close to going sub-1:45. Next time. Now to recover and hop back into my last hard week of training before CIM.
