Walking 5:00:00 [3] 9.0 km (33:20 / km) +800m 23:05 / km

Mt Tyndall and the Tyndall Plateau. The third peak in the West Coast Range and another very different experience. A rough track through t-tree swamp, then up a steep hillside to emerge on a wonderful alpine environment. Walk to the top and look over 300+ metre cliffs on the other side. These are now a rock climbing destination. Judging by the intentions book the only other people on the range were two Belgium rock climbers on the Lake Huntley cliff. Must get back up here top wander south to Mt Geike. The alpine tarn environment is sublime.

Walking 4:30:00 [3] 8.4 km (32:09 / km) +750m 22:13 / km

Mt Owen. The mountain looms over Queenstown as a monument to past pollution. But the best aspect is the other side of the mountain. Hanging glacial lake, intriguing geology and all round views given the peaks isolation. Anyone with a spare day in the area could do little better than walk up this peak. Its much more fun that the Wilderness Railway, and thats pretty good anyway.

Walking 5:00:00 [3] 8.8 km (34:05 / km) +770m 23:43 / km

Mt Murchison. Splendid peak. A must do trip for any connoisseur of craggy glaciated peaks.

Walking 5:30:00 [3] 18.0 km (18:20 / km) +900m 14:40 / km

Climbing Cradle Mountain.
Hardly a wilderness experience.
The peak does play a positive role in attracting the crowds so they don't go elsewhere.

Real Orienteering race (Lockwood Range) 57:43 [4] *** 6.94 km (8:19 / km) +215m 7:12 / km
ahr:140 spiked:19/21c

Day 2 of Bendigo Today on Lockwood Range map.
Two navigational errors. One was running past number 8, losing 70 seconds. The other.. more to come on that.
Despite the six variations in the butterflies amongst the granite during which I seemed to be running alone, a pack reformed at the end of the variations for the final three kilometres. Stretched out in front were four very familiar faces The last 23 minutes were a strange match "race". Its innaccurate to describe 60 years olds as running frantically. So lets just say it was a competition to see who could walk the least. In the last kilometre my heart rate rose from 140 to 160. I felt pleased to have to push myself like that. Then I downloaded and discovered I had missed control 13 in the butterflies. 12, 13 and 14 were in a line. I had 13 sorted and was reading the navigation to 14 before punching 13. And of course, I forgot to punch 13 and ran past.
Postscript 1: Another win to Julie. She is ahead 3-2 for the season so far.
Postscript 2: This map was completed before the release of the new specification. Its clear that even putting aside the symbol changes, the map is at present far from compliant with the standard. Using CheckOMap has changed the way I look at maps. When I find some time I will attempt to convert and update the map to the new specification. And add the new track.
Postscript 3: Went control collecting and managed to put a hole in a tyre. This complicates a planned trip to Melbourne tomorrow.

Pseud-O race 37:00 [3] 4.9 km (7:33 / km) +40m 7:15 / km
shoes: Salamon Speedcross Green

To reach my Sunday long run target, I went to Park & Street Challenge. I needed 35 minutes to reach my target, and sure enough, with a few minutes to go the plantar fascia gave me the signal it was time to quit. This was not fast.

Walking 2:30:00 [3] 13.0 km (11:32 / km)

Actually was cajoled into entering a club golf competition. It being almost 3 years since i had submitted a card, my handicap was very generous. And as a result I was the winner.

Pseud-O race 18:08 [4] *** 2.5 km (7:15 / km) +35m 6:47 / km

SE College. Bendigo ToDay sprint.
I knew my target was 17 minutes (Julie's time) and about a third of the way through I realised to have any hope I needed to pull out the finger. I did, and blew up soon after the map changeover. In the end I was a minute behind. My one minor mistake and Julies incorrect punching on the cricket net control can only account for 20 seconds of that. And then she claims she made two errors.

Actually a machine called an AirDyne. It was the quiet spot in the gym.

Back, core and achilles 35:00 [1]

Long run provided the evidence I need to take achilles and plantar exercises a little more seriously.

Finally a run I feel I can describe as "long". Right at the limit of plantar fascia. Last 500 metres was painful in foot and hip. Powered by ibuprofen. The Julie Flynn pace car was way ahead most of the time.

Gateway. Dripping with sweat at the end. Checked the humidity on BOM site- 96%. Pretty high for Bendigo. So had a look at the NT. Bendigo had higher humidity than any NT BOM site at that time. Not sure this happens all that often in summer.
Update. It was 98% earlier in the run.

Run home from mechanic in Eaglehawk, passing through New St Mungo, St Justs Point, Royal George Company and Victoria Hill maps. I think this qualifies as an over 64 long run.

Running hills 20:00 [4]

Step machine at the gym. 4 by 5 minute intervals. Despite air conditioning and a strong air flow from the giant fan, this was a sweat fest.
104 stories supposedly.

Swimming warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Cool down swim required following steps.

Fowl and Fizz.
Crusoe Reservoir Park
The orienteering season is with us again. Ran and navigated well (for my age and fitness). Finished with one minute spare, which sounded like good planning until I realised I had run past a control and not made the slight detour to punch.
A notable event in that it was the only the second use of this map, the first being the 2013 Easter carnival. Change of personnel in the park.
