Running 29:30 [3] 5.2 km (5:40 / km) +55m 5:23 / km
shoes: New Balance Road shoes

Morning run. Not enough time to get to the stage where running is enjoyable. Now off to Melbourne

Note

Spent two hours attempting to map some gold mining terrain for the next Ironman. Slow, slow progress. If i can finish the job, it will be a very challenging event.

Note
(rest day)

No time for running with 850 kilometres of driving today. But did sneak in a taste of paragliding. Was wondering if thsi is a good summer sport for Bendigo. We have lots of thermals, light winds, many steep and bare hillsides and plenty of landing areas. In teh hang gliding craze of the 1970s the local flyers created quite a few launch sites on hills like Tarrengower, Alexander etc.

Loved the experience of taking a step and launching into the air on an updraft. Bad news is that after 15 minutes I was suffering motion sickness. Not sure if it is a good idea now.

Here is me a micrometre from spewing. You can appreciate the design feature in tandems.. the passenger at the front.

Running long 1:30:05 [3] 15.4 km (5:51 / km) +140m 5:36 / km
shoes: New Balance Road shoes

30 minutes to warm up, 30 minutes feeling ok, then 30 minutes feeling slow and sore. ?

Course setting race 7:52 [4] ***** 1.2 km (6:33 / km)

MAZE-O
Bendigo end of year Maze-O. One of my better course setting efforts for the year. Quite fun to set 6 * 1.2 k courses in an area 60M * 45M. Ran it as a three person relay.
I'll put the course up on route gadget on Teusday for some hilarity. But tomorrow I'll be at Bright trying paragliding.

Here is one of the variations.

It might be a small area, but nearly everyone was running hard.

It got a little crowded at times.

Jymbo did well as usual!

Running 1:02:50 [3] 10.2 km (6:10 / km) +120m 5:49 / km

Morning run, but started too late. 32 degrees at the end.

Running 51:30 [3] 8.6 km (5:59 / km) +85m 5:42 / km
shoes: New Balance Road shoes

I always feel better AFTER a morning run. Well, better than when I was running. I think it takes me 45 minutes to warm up. The first kilometre at 6.30 pace, though 'pace' is perhaps the wrong word. The last kilometre at 4.30 pace.

Thursday Nov 23, 2006 #

Note

Available training time spent building the Maze-O for the weekend. Might put the map up here when its finished.

Wednesday Nov 22, 2006 #

Running race 59:40 [4] * 10.4 km (5:44 / km) +155m 5:20 / km

Reasonable decision making. Slow running. Need 8 weeks of training to get some form (relatively speaking) back. But the most disappointing aspect was that over 30 people turned out tonight, but last week when I set the course in Eaglehawk, we just topped 10! Are bendigo orienteers social snobs? Or fair weather babies. Granted it was cold last week. But it was fine. No, snobs I think.
Slumming, slumming, lets go slumming, on Neangar Park Avenue!
At least the heat had passed by tonight. Yesterday would have been quite alarming running around in heat and high winds. It was smoky this morning with a fine covering of Wimmera dust on everything. Wimmera dust is black, Mallee red. One up for the conservation farmers of the Mallee. Then when I arrived at work I had to pick my way to the door through 13 palm fronds that came off the three date palms near the entrance. No, running last night would have been unpleasant, if not possibly dangerous.

Running 1:05:30 [2] 10.94 km (5:59 / km) +80m 5:47 / km

I hate early morning runs. I felt like lard on legs. Maybe I am.

Running 47:00 [2] 7.6 km (6:11 / km) +40m 6:02 / km

Gentle start to the new training season, logging more tracks in the Welsford Forest. I'm starting to get confused out here. Might be good for a very different rogaine.

Running 30:00 [1]

Setting out and collecting street O controls on the new Jobs Gully map. . Mainly by car. But there was a little terrain involved.....

Thought I had set a course that would prevent Bryan from getting them all. I failed. The only reason more didn't get them all was that they didn't turn up. Hungover from Bendigo Cup, or cry babies put off by the arctic conditions. Apparently it was snowing on Mt Alexander. I missed that! I was putting these little buggers out while the convoy went to experience the white stuff.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Went for a gentle run logging tracks, then remembered I should get the map for tomorrows event printed as it is a public holiday in Bendigo tomorrow. So running stopped post haste.

Saturday Nov 11, 2006 #

Note
(rest day)

No running today.
But time not wasted. Went mapping for the 2007 Ironman. I think you will like this place. High standard gold mining. Too small to be used for a Middle. Too complex for a sprint. Perfect for an Ironman. Here is a 270 degree panorama I stitched together.

spiked:28/30c shoes: New Balance Road shoes

The annual Bendigo Twilight '3 hour'. A score event that starts about 45 minutes before sunset. You have to run hard in that first hour to get as many controls as possible while the navigation is easy. So the usual 3 hour pacing to save yourself a little in reserve doesn't happen. So, naturally, you are more tired than usual in that last hour when you really have to concentrate. Happy to get all the controls with 30 minutes to spare. No real errors in the dark. Missed a couple of controls by about 25 metres. Night navigation is one of my stronger suites, so I like this event.
