Real Orienteering race (Irishtown) 1:00:30 [4] *** 6.19 km (9:46 / km) +290m 7:55 / km
ahr:127 max:170 spiked:12/14c shoes: Salamon Sppedcross 4 blue V2

Enjoyed the run in one way and was a little disappointed in another way. The terrain was a good workout with quite a few tough hills. Enjoyed the workout. The course had 14 legs and only 4 were interesting as a test of navigation. Parts of it felt like I was running in a score event. The terrain really offers opportunity for longish route choice legs. Helped me appreciate the Bendigo events.
Errors. Dropped 30 seconds at 5 and 2:10 at 7. GPS shows I ran within metres of the control and didn't see it. These were the only navigationally challenging controls, so errors on each not a good sign.

Real Orienteering race (Mandurang Coolibah) 45:51 [3] 5.8 km (7:54 / km) +121m 7:10 / km
shoes: Salamon Sppedcross 4 blue V2

Two novice course setters this weekend. Michael did a good job on this terrain within the constraints of the map. Its far from the club's best spur-gully area, but it has some good sections and Michael used those. Running every weekend on bush events has shaped his ideas about what constitutes a good course. Whilst not perfect (is there ever a perfect course), there was a mix of leg lengths, regular changes of direction, some classic navigational challenges. A good sign for the future.
My run. Almost flawless except for missing control 5 by 15 metres, dropping 20 seconds maybe. Main issue remains fitness.

Walking 2:00:00 [1] 8.0 km (15:00 / km)

Friday May 24, 2019 #

Note

11 hours driving to Rumpff Saddle and return. Strangely, despite grabbing running clothes and heading for gym, I didn't feel like any exercise when I got there.

Nondescript run for nondescript purpose.
On the positive side of the ledger, losing a kilo a week atm.

Real Orienteering race (Mandurang) 56:40 [3] *** 6.46 km (8:46 / km) +260m 7:18 / km
ahr:134 max:176 spiked:10/10c shoes: Salamon Sppedcross 4 blue V2

A Twilight event on Mandurang. Eschewed the night option to choose instead to watch the election coverage. That was an anticlimax. Would have felt better after night orienteering.
Anyway. No errors but not a stellar time, despite feeling whilst on the course that my running was improved due to the renewed fitness campaign. Perhaps it was a day when all polls were to be proved wrong.

The annual event at Mt Korong. What a great area.
Only one navigational confusiuon at first control, though I could have approached some others with more thought. Culminated in rock climbing down to the control at 15.
