Real Orienteering race (Spargo Creek) 1:34:16 [3] *** 9.8 km (9:37 / km) +350m 8:10 / km

Its been a long time since I was last at Spargo Creek. Perhaps that's a good thing. The advertised 300m climb turned out to be 350m, or I misread the event information. The killer was the last small loop that starts within sight of the finish. It had 90 metres climb. Ouch. Despite the simple terrain, made two errors of significance. One was a loss of concentration, but the other was 4 minutes looking for the first pit in the bracken. Nice to get out in the forest though.

Note
(injured)

Didn't really notice much at the time, but clearly I strained my right hamstring area today. That cruel last loop must be to blame!

Real Orienteering race (Sedgwick) 1:01:00 [3] *** 6.9 mi (8:50 / mi)

Felt tight in the hamstrings, slow in the legs, there is a race tomorrow and I had to collect the controls afte rthe event. So took it a bit soft. Given how I feel now, probably should have just collected controls. Might pike tommorrow and just put out controls at Lockwood and do a bit of mapping. The map improves a little with each event. Time to do some gully erosion.

Running 46:00 [2] ***

Collected the distant controls on Sedgwick. There are a lot oc contours on the map!

ERSATZ ORIENTEERING

In response to comments about the stupidity of 'foot' as a descriptor of orienteering..

Its orienteering. Full stop.
Everything else is ersatz orienteering.
If it has to be something else, why not 'shoe' orienteering? Its no stupider. Sorry. Its just as stupid.

No, let's just start referring to all the other versions by the generic of E-orienteering and leave the advocates to work out what the e stands for.

Running 34:00 [3] 5.5 km (6:11 / km) +50m 5:55 / km

As the lady says, running with spouse and catching up. But it was not all slow and gentle. When she started recounting moments of family tension, the pace upped dramatically.

Note

Woke this morning to a very strange phenomena. Water is falling out of the sky. It has been since 10pm last night and shows no sign of stopping soon. I'm not sure if its safe to run in these conditions as it is out of my recent experience. I'll do some research before I make my decision.

Running hills 23:00 [5] 3.4 km (6:46 / km) +300m 4:42 / km

10 ascents of a hill at Warrenmang Winery while my work colleagues were on a winery tour. Estimated height was 30 metres. It was probably a bit too steep for the purpose, but it was available.

Running warm up/down 14:00 [2] 2.8 km (5:00 / km)

Minimal warm down. Don't ask about woarm up. That was the first 3 hill repeats. they hurt the most
