Walking 2:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (20:00 / km) +550m 13:43 / km
shoes: Nike Trail

For the rest day we stopped off at the Cathedral Park and climbed Cathedral peak. Many of the trails from there were 'closed' but it wasn't that which stopped doing more. I think Jools had just about had it for the trip. I have made many trips to this area before children, for the purpose of climbing on North and South Jawbones, Ned's Peak and even the Sugarloaf once. But I had never been to the top of the range to look down on the Acheron Valley. This trip made amends for that.

Note
(rest day)

One of the highlights of the walk was the profusion (by Australian standards) of wildflowers in the areas burnt last February. I have to admit to going a little snap happy.

Yet more excellent running trails of Warburton.. this time the O'Shannassy Aqueduct Trail. I remember travelling along this on a hike while in high school. Apparently it was illegal to use it then. Today its part of the promotion of Warburton as a bike destination. We did a 7.5 k return trip above Warburton, which is less than a quarter of the full trail that ends at O'Shannassy Reservoir. Whether it is all 'opened' yet I am unsure, but we will come back and do the lot when we can. If I could walk the aqueduct when it was illegal, running it when it is merely unopened is minor.

Walked from 10 mile turntable to Donna Buang and thence to Mt Boobyalla and back. The outstanding features of the walk were the eerie misty scenes and the leeches. Blood stained socks were the order of the day.
Impressive view from the top of the new lookout tower on top Donna Buang (see last photo).

Sampled the running trails of Warburton. Ran from Milgrove to Warburton on the rail trail, then a circuit of the river on the river trail then back. Most pleasnt running to the sound of running water. Quite novel for a Bendigonian. You need trails to run here.. thick and leech ridden bush less than inviting.

Note
(rest day)

Saved my rest day till now, based upon the likely weather. The thought of running this morning was less than attractive given the heat. The usual niggling aches and pains after a series of consecutive running days gives accord to the decision. Slackness reigns. Just have to pack and hop in the car for the mystery trip Julie has organised. All I know is the picture of the house that she showed me on Xmas morning. There was a tall tree nearby so I am deducing it is near the coast or the ranges. Hopefully cooler than Bendigo.

Note

Turns out we were off to Warburton. Stopped by at the Britannia Creek Hall to revisit the scene of our wedding vows. The garden where we did the deed is now quite unkempt. The hall where we held the very low key reception os dilapidated and scheduled for demolition. The reserve land is being sold.

Run before the painting obligation. I thought if I worked extra fast at it yesterday I'd get through two days of scheduled painting in one. Nope, it just meant the schedule was adjusted.

Jools ran with me today and wore her brand new Garmin. It measured 6.37 and my earlier model 205 measured 6.45.. I assume the difference is because she cut corners in an effort to catch up ;-}. Nope, before I am accused of treachery, I will amend that explanation to the fact that 305s capture data every 4 seconds while my older 205 is on a one second data capture option. So it was the Garmin cutting corners.

Award for thoughtless shit of the year: The twit who dropped a sloppy turd on a rock next to Lady Bath Falls at Mt Buffalo. I suppose they were also responsible for the cigarette butt floating in the pool. I am not sure if these sorts of bogans are trying to be obnoxious or if they actually believe that the 500 metre walk from the car will mean no-one else is ever likely to visit the spot before their turd is rotted away.
