Running long 1:39:00 [3] 14.86 km (6:40 / km) +253m 6:08 / km
shoes: Asics Trail

Finally braved the standard channel to Marne long run. Its been months since I went this route. Surprised by the time and the fact I managed a continuous run up Marne from the saddle. Beautiful morning with blue skies and a light southerly breeze.

Real Orienteering race (Mosquito Creek) 51:01 [4] *** 7.72 km (6:37 / km) +141m 6:03 / km
spiked:11/12c shoes: Saucony Xodus 9.5

A great long style course set on Mosquito Creek by Toph. The highlight was a 2 k leg. Each leg had a purpose and each tested different skills. Had a good battle with Ilka according to Routegadget. Had a very rare win against her because she threw away her lead on the last control of the course. Must get fitter. She was clearly faster than me when she was accurate.

Its been a great couple of months at the local events. Lets see...
Todays on Mosquito Creek with Toph.
Great middle distance course on Norfolk Hero from Chris.
Good long style course on Sedgwick from Cat.
A good day on Mandurang from Colin
Jims sprint courses on Devonshire.
A really tough long style course on Mt Alexander from Warwick.

I'll stop there. Missed a few before that being occupied elsewhere. If you don't believe my comments, have a look at the the A courses on Route Gadget. The standard of course setting has been very high. Its not just that all the controls have been in the correct place. Thats basic. The long courses have had good route choice legs and have tested endurance. The middle style courses have demanded continual concentration with challenging but fair controls and lots of changes of direction. The sprint course was fast and furious.

It bears out some observations I have made in the past that nothing builds course setting skills like practice and regularly sampling good courses by others. With two thirds of Victoria's bush events happening in our local series, its the place to learn.

Back to working on our map register.
