Walking 1:59:00 [2] 7.4 km (16:05 / km) +200m 14:10 / km

Yesterday's optimism proved short lived. Had to bail on a hike across the Razorback after less than 4 kilometres. Heels were extremely painful. I turned around and walked back with a number of pain breaks. The ladies continued on to Feathertop. I was able to pick them up at the bottom of Bungalow Spur. My problem was an opportunity for them to do the through trip.

Back to the drawing board so to speak.

Real Orienteering (Kangaroo Gully) 2:00:38 [3] **** 12.24 km (9:51 / km) +300m 8:47 / km

Leon Keely organised another training course. This one was on Kangaroo Gully in middle distance style. It was advertised as 6 kilometres. It took me two hours to finish. Partly this was due to an unstoppable tear reflex that eventually forced me to remove the contact lens. Partly it was due to unfitness. part was also reacting to spider webs. They are back. But by the end the main problem was becoming apparent. Poor Leon fell victim to a trap with one of the earlier versions of this map. Its labelled as 1:10,000, but this refers to the layout, not the map scale. Its 1:15,000 in OCAD. Leon can take heart that he is one of many club members that has done this. I think even Jim did for one of his Bendigo ToDay events! It was actually a 9.3 k course and I ran a little over 12.

This is the longest run I have done for a very long time. I feel quite good after completing it and my confidence that i can manage a real orienteering season this year has increased. Not quite walking on air, but close. Will just have to wait and see what the body feels like tomorrow on the Razorback between Hotham and Feathertop. No rest for that foot.

PS Thanks Leon.
