Real Orienteering race (Borhoney Ghurk) 43:24 [4] **** 4.27 km (10:10 / km) +165m 8:31 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: Kayana White/green

Vic Middle- blow by blow
0-1 Realised the green was worthy pf respect. So slowed down to make sure my quickroute trace was red and would stand out later on. A green trace would disappear.
Also kept to the top and then veered right when it felt about time.
1-2 Kept on the top and turned left when the mining detail appeared.
2-3 Bendigo red line technique worked well until I reach the cliff just before the control. Rockclimbing skills helped me keep on the red line.
3-4 Looks like I climbed another cliff. Can't say I noticed. Was keen to bypass the piles of rubble on the red line.
4-5 Tried to red line but failed to climb as I did, so was a little low. First error.
5-6 Red lining worked
6-7 Red lined but again failed to climb. Hd to at the endof the leg. Error 2.
7-8 Red lining required another cliff climb. Well actually bloody steep hill climb. As the control was on top, there was no point trying to go round.
8-9 Red line through detail
9-10 Almost red line through detail.
10-11 I did think about an attack point strategy, but in the end red lined, hoping to collect myself on the cliff on the line. Didn't see it, though the GPS said I went right next to it. weird. And so made the significant error of the run. Error 3 cost 2-3 minutes.
11-12 Suspicious of red line, so too a more careful route. Which was a waste of time. This was a red line control.
12-13 Down into the gully and ran along the bottom to avoid needing to think. Apparently there was a second control up top which cause the best fun of the day... but that was when I finished.
14-15 Red line
15-16 red line
16-17 Track
17-F track
Arrived at finish to hear Chris N discussing his dnf due to that control pair at 14. I enjoyed claiming Roch and I (2nd and 3rd to his 1st) would protest if he was reinstated. Pity I couldn't stop smiling so I wasn't very believable.
How can a setting mistake like this happen. Very easily actually. I have come close myself. It comes from making late tweaking to courses, and no longer looking at the interaction between courses. Quite human. Other than that, I thought this was one of the better Rex Niven courses. Good terrain helps as well. The regrowth improves the challenge.

Real Orienteering race (Browns Reef) 47:55 [3] *** 6.78 km (7:04 / km) +125m 6:28 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: Kayana White/green

The misses weren't very significant.
Speaking of misses, this course was set by two young ladies in the club. At a guess Leisha is 18 and Corrina about 15. They put a lot of thought into the task and it shows. Its a very good sign for the future of Victorian orienteering.
