Real Orienteering race (Kooyoora) 1:50:20 [4] **** 9.65 km (11:26 / km) +375m 9:34 / km
spiked:9/10c shoes: Kayana White/green

Toughest event for quite some time.
One error, but it cost 11 minutes.
One injury, and it cost 12 stitches and time in casualty at Bendigo Hospital. In the cubicle next door was Aston Key. I slipped on a descent of some bare rock. Was thinking- must be careful it could be slippery--oops. Landed on my elbow. Sat feeling sorry for myself for a couple of minutes wondering whether to look and whether to abandon the course. Answers respectively were no and no. So I headed off with a fair bit of blood flowing, reasoning that while the adrenaline was flowing it wouldn't hurt. And it didn't till the post finish clean up. My speed did however lag after the accident. I wasn't game to risk hitting the elbow or scraping it on any of the many obnoxious sharp timber traps. Tried to avoid green but that wasn't all that feasible.
I think today I started falling out of love with Kooyoora. Its just getting too thick. I have set lots of events here, so have been in good touch with the state of veg. In the last three or so years I see lots of varnish wattles have died and fallen, greatly diminishing runnability, even in the south west part of the map. The map legend should now read-
Dark green- fight
Light green- slow and probably fight
White- probably green
Yellow- yes you can run
Grey- yes you can run, but not when the moss is wet.
I declare Korong Spur now the best mapped orienteering granite in Victoria. There remains the frustration of the best unmapped granite over towards Stawell.

Spiked all but two. Those two misses were very minor. Just not fast enough. Navigated too safely.
