Real Orienteering race (One Tree Hill) 54:12 [3] *** 5.8 km (9:21 / km) +185m 8:04 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: Salamon Speed Cross 4 Black

22nd Forest event for the year.
Navigation seemed so much easier than Woodhill. Time to relax the brain and run. Relaxed so well I stuffed the last real control and lost three minutes. Must learn to switch back on. A little uncertainty on a couple of controls due to the kites being behind trees. It must be here... why not. Move on.. oh yes it is there after all.

Note

If all goes to plan over next two months, I will reach the half way point of the year with the same number of forest events as at the end of last year. I will also be half way to my target for the year.

Note

Have just made my first conversion of an ISOM 2000 map into an ISOM 2017 map. Its a partially mapped area with some relatively uncomplicated sluice mining (ie not Rowdy Flat style complexity). The conversion is a failure. The map will need to be totally redrawn with what Australians would consider significant features removed from the map and replaced by a generic area symbol for broken ground. My conclusion is that the new specification is designed to remove Australian mining terrain from international competition.
If we wish to run WRE or Oceania Champs they will definitely need to be on granite or spur gully terrain. All that Creswick terrain is problematic.
What do we do about this. In our OA submission I seem to remember we argued that an international standard needs international utility. The new standard fails this test. Do we start mapping our mining terrain at 1:10,000 and tell the IOF to stick it WREs up their clacker. Some interesting decisions to ponder.
