Real Orienteering race 1:26:00 [3] *** 6.83 km (12:35 / km) +314m 10:14 / km

Its races like these that make me think maybe its time to consider course 3.
I think my 300 metre climb races are over.
Two errors. Ran past control 1. Lost maybe 50 seconds. In my defence, I picked up the table cloth sized map excited about 1:7,500 and discovered 1:10,000. I have trouble reading that scale these days, and a purple line through the middle of the big erosion gully made it hard to know what I was reading.
Ran the wrong way up a gully near 9. Lost a couple of minutes. Should have gone the safe way along the gully the whole trip.
Other observations:
1. Took a tumble of sorts in the rock near 8. Had a sore knee for some time after that. Realised that running wasn't really safe for me in steep terrain. Lots of walking followed. Age catches up with me.
2. New compass and it was wonderful after my debacle last week with the unstraight model.

Start of winter so celebrated by trying my old hill routine by half. Turns out it was only a third of what was to come the next day at Glenluce.

Decided on a another attempt at a reasonable length run. Going through the tunnel under the railway, came across a 16 year old victim of an assault balling her eyes and grasping scissors in a way that didn't look healthy. Had to intervene. The perps were two other women and a bloke. They had left. Drugs were involved and the girl didn't want police, parents involved. Took her home and Julie organised a shower and some clothing. The bastards had smeared her with dogshit. I think I have lived a sheltered life.
