1st Lady - Interesting one. Headed up the hill with Sally and Buxton Lady (Helen or something - i really should know that we often race against each other!) easily in sight. Felt comfortable and stronger than last year for sure. Got to the top of the first climb and followed the leaders up towards Win Hill. Um. Wasn't sure that was right. It wasn't. But people had tried to argue with said marshal but we just had to go where they said. WHICH WAS WRONG. Eventually people started shouting at us to turn around. So i did but everyone ahead of me aside from sally continued on and ended up having their own little race. So then i was at the back of the race and decided just to go and have fun as there was nothing to lose at this point. Started to push my way through the woods and the back of the field. One man told me to 'slow down love, there's a long way to go'. I KNOW THERE'S A LONG WAY TO GO AND I'VE JUST GONE AND ACCIDENTALLY RUN AN EXTRA 1.5KM SO PLEASE MIND YOUR BACK. Eventually they let me past and i caught Zoe. Then i was past her and heading up the hill (Ellie and Alice in sight). I caught Ellie on the climb and a few other ladies although it was still pretty hard to get anywhere as it was totally gridlocked. Still pretty frustrated at this point but was getting through the field and at the top Stu told me there were only a few ladies ahead. And downhill it was so off i went. I caught Alice and the next lady and then wasn't really sure of my position. Knew Zoe wasn't far behind and was still incredibly frustrated so absolutely bombed it down the hill. Which meant i stacked it as i turned the corner from the grassy field onto the gravel. Ouch. Somehow managed to smash up both hips, both knees and an elbow but was to annoyed to really notice. It's a long run in and i was beginning to get a bit tired. About 300m from the finish i spied another lady and knew i had to get her. Passed her through a massive puddle on the way into the finish field and just went for it. Turns out i was actually first lady home. Time obviously slower than last year but my splits from the actual race route are all faster. So that's positive. Definitely a race to remember! And still my fav local race for sure.
