Orienteering 1:36:42 [3] *** 6.16 mi (15:42 / mi) +572m 12:11 / mi
22c shoes: Salomon Speed Cross 4

3-map 1-man relay at Brady's Run

We got the first map with 8 c at the start, and then at 8 you had to drop your map and grab a new one for the next 8 c, and then at 16 swap to a new map again for the last 6 c.

My nav was really clean with probably no legs with more than a minute or so of errors, and only 2 or 3 of those. The hills were killer though. Each leg was basically up a really big hill over the first couple controls, and then back down the hill for the last couple controls to the map swap. By the third map i had to stop and rest on a few of the hills! Also slid down one of them to a point where I was actually a little scared for my well being with the amount of momentum i picked up - and it dumped me into a shallow stream at the bottom.

The map swaps proved the death of me because I forgot to punch the second one! Too much to do with swapping maps, writing names, getting water, planning ahead, and punching! :(. Stupid mistake. Disregarding this mistake I beat syd by about 5 min, which is mostly a testament to my clean nav.

Pittsburgh Step Trek 2017

Strictly speaking this isnt really orienteering, but thanks to sherpes the event exists on an o map for anyone interested in trying it out along side the google map and copious signage. We got to go up or down about 1500 steps, and learn about some of the unique history of the south side slopes area. I nav'd on the map while syd read the history. A fun event.
