Saratoga Memorial Duathlon

I decided I’m interested in getting back into triathlons, so when I went looking for local events this one popped up. At 30 min away, and last minute registration an option (up to 1 hour before event! - I did about 12 hours before) it seemed worth trying out.

8 am start

5 km run: 24:11 (7:42 pace).
Well that was probably too fast, but it actually felt pretty good. Mostly in the shade. I would say I was pretty mid pack.

Transition: 1:12

30 km bike (18.8 mi): 1:12:57 (15.5 mph)
I ride my gravel bike since my road bike isn’t super functional. Was constantly getting passed or lapped. But I’m actually pretty happy with that race pace, it’s much faster than I usually ride when on my own.

Transition: 58

5km run: 28:24 (8:57 pace)
I had very little oomph left for this, so the fact that I was still sub 9 is pretty exciting. I caught two or three people, but it was pretty spread at this point. Still some shade, but a lot more sun now and it was hot!

Post race pizza and snacks. Overall it was a fun and local race. Would do again on the chance we’re home Memorial Day weekend, which is likely rare.
