Orienteering 1:09:51 intensity: (2:37 @1) + (9:16 @2) + (24:17 @3) + (25:50 @4) + (7:51 @5) *** 3.15 mi (22:11 / mi) +285m 17:19 / mi

Training at Bramberk on the Middle terrain. This was PA style hills with an abundance of point features (mostly rocks and rock piles). Familiar but also not my forte. Im actually quite happy with how this went, I was able to read the terrain well and get into the circles with ease. Just need to work on the finding the flag part. Took several breaks when I heard crashing in the woods to get my camera ready and take a few pictures of the US team athletes in the woods.

Training on the Long/Relay terrain at Supi Hora. I took a relay map at 1:10k and did 1 loop plus a little. The contours made good sense, in some ways very similar to PA hills. But I really struggled getting into the rocks and cliffs, much like I do at Harriman.

Made a big mistake on 4 and ended up in a thicket on a steep hill. After finding my way out I was a bit confused for a while. I think I could improve at this with practice.

Good news! Bags arrived at 10pm Thursday evening.

Took sprinters to Terezin to the model sprint map. Mostly tried to get ahead of them to take pictures, so I was barely orienteering. Really interesting sprint map, figuring out which level to be on and where tunnels were the best route choice. Glad I wasnt doing this sprint, I would have struggled mightily at speed. Would be super fun tho.

Trail Running 33:17 intensity: (3 @1) + (33 @2) + (10:48 @3) + (18:37 @4) + (3:16 @5) 3.0 mi (11:06 / mi) +154m 9:34 / mi

Went on a mixed road/trail run to find a view of the town. The hills here are very interesting. The land is generally rolling shallow hills, pretty flat, but then sprinkled in are all these relatively steep and small round hills a few hundred meters tall. This was a shallower one, and still quite a difficult run.

Orienteering 10:49 intensity: (15 @0) + (1:13 @1) + (6:42 @2) + (2:39 @3) ** 1.07 mi (10:07 / mi) +27m 9:22 / mi

Technical training for the athletes, so they can check their sticks and start procedures. I did it as a micro sprint. Reaffirmed my position that I cant read the map at speeds necessary to do well in sprints. Made several route choice gaffs, and got stuck in traps on mulitple occasions,.

I also learned that if you go through the finish chute it shuts off your SI air to save battery. Thats a problem when you go through on the way to 7, and then need to manually punch the rest of the controls. Lesson learned.

Lots of fun, just way too slow, even for me.

Road Running 36:50 intensity: (10 @0) + (24 @1) + (7:26 @2) + (24:20 @3) + (4:30 @4) 3.24 mi (11:22 / mi) +26m 11:05 / mi

Team check in for Covid test, and wait out results in the hotel room. By the time all that happened there wasnt time for much, and there was a ban on any orienteering activity for fairness due to different check in times.

Also, still no baggage.

This was about all we had time to get in, a short run around town in areas we were familiar enough we could make our way back to the hotel.

Not the best start to the week.

Road Running 17:12 intensity: (1 @0) + (6 @1) + (4:00 @2) + (8:55 @3) + (4:10 @4) 1.55 mi (11:06 / mi) +22m 10:38 / mi

Flight out of Detroit was delayed to the point we would miss our connection, so we got on a different flight to Atlanta. Our bags got taken off the DTW flight... and then put back on, so they didnt travel in the same direction as us.

The rest of our flights went mostly smoothly, but we got in to Prague about 4 hours later than we wanted, without bags, and a smaller rental car because ours had been given away.

Stopped at a sports store to buy a pair of running clothes to get us through. By the time we made it to our accomodations it was getting dark but we needed to do something to stretch our legs. This was all we managed before crashing in bed.

Too brutally hot and humid to bike outside. Feels pretty lame being on the trainer in summer though.
