Ski Orienteering race (Long course) 2:33:00 [4] *** 30.0 km (5:06 / km)
spiked:47/48c shoes: Salomon Racing Skate 9
Long course. 48 controls. 30 KM shortest skiable distance. Cold and windy, with temperatures in the -10 to -15C range.
Chose routes that kept me on larger trails for most of the day. The climbs were more taxing than I expected. I'm not sure what happened. Navigation was solid, only temporarily losing touch with the map once.
Need a way to track control progress for e-punching since there's no physical reminder like there is with paper punching. I finished in 2:33, but later found out that I missed a control on the 2nd map. It was only 15M out of the way from where I was, but I must have looked ahead to the equipment control (and "the wall", a steep 4 contour climb we had to do on each map) and missed it. I tried to use splits on my watch, but wasn't disciplined enough for it to help.
