Still hot, though glad it wasnt as hot as yesterday. Agree with mark3 that there were a few controls hung on wrong lampposts, (easy mistake to make) and a few where the map could have been clearer as to where the control should be.

I have no excuse for messing up no. 20, I got out of the urban stuff and relaxed one too early, had read the route to 20 really early so knew I had to basically run down to the veg boundary corner, down the path, duck into the open ground.... so when there was no path, did I think "perhaps I am not yet at the point where the path is" and check on the map? No. I barged through the trees assuming there would be a path somewhere... ended up on a different bit of open ground, similar shaped, confused and lost about a minute. But that was my only real mistake.

I also thought that there were too many controls right at the end of dead ends. Partly it was just annoying to run all that way just to run back again, but also felt that it gave me too much map reading time before coming to a decision point. I am not complaining about that, but it could have been made trickier by putting the controls closer to the decision points.... that said, first go at planning and organising, great job by the rushes, hope they stay enthusiastic and organise and plan some more.

Realised with only 3 weeks to go to Tunturisuunnistus in Vuontispirtti I really need to get some distance and climb in my legs... too hot today, did OK but felt very faint after slowing down to fight way through tourists on suspension bridge so walked the last few km home.

Starting to dream about lapland again.....

The maps for Vuontispirtti look nice... 10m contours, 1:25000 I believe. Very beautiful line of fells, so if the climb is too much at least the views will be lovely!!

Old courses from 2011...

And after this I will reward myself with a nice 5 day solo hike in the UKK, no phones, no internet, just me and some fells and streams and lakes (and probably some bugs too but some company is acceptible!)

Swimming (Henleaze Long Lake Swim) 29:16 [3] 0.88 km (33:15 / km)

Angling end of lake opened up for July Long Swim day, managed two laps, calf muscles cramped badly climbing up ladder to get out.

Lovely to swim up to the fishing end too, is pretty up there! Water nice and warm as well, at least 19 degrees.

Argh. Was doing really well, a few very minor errors early on, worst was 7 were I must have lost 30s or maybe a bit more. Then 11-12.

Honestly, god knows what happened. I think I crossed a distinct indistinct path, and assumed wrongly I was in the circle. Despite contours being wrong. Saw glint of sunlight, ran up to it thinking it was the small clearing by the control. It wasnt. Found no. 55 and relocated off that, ran in the right direction(ish) but then looked at map again and wrongly assumed I was relocating from 7-12 not 8-12. Ran back up hill and the otherway all the while thinking "how could I have made SUCH a big mistake in direction". The answer was of course that I hadn't, and the big mistake was the one I was just committing..... Anyway, eventually realised my own bloody stupidity and found 12 relatively easily once I started looking in the place where it was.... After that my heart wasn't really in it. Will be interesting to see the results and splits and what position I had been in at 11.... (I would have been 8th) I felt relatively fit and happy with my running. Always a bad sign!!

Really quite Angry with myself.....!
