Orienteering (BOK Stockhill Brown) 1:10:10 [0] 9.67 km (7:15 / km) +166m 6:41 / km
shoes: VJ Bold 2019 (yellow)

I love Stockhill. Started carefully then made a bit of a mistake on 4. Cut through forest on really runnable extraction lane but wasnt sure where I was when I hit track at end, gambled and headed right. Realised when I could see runners on path that I'd come over too far and got back on track. From then on made very few mistakes, spiked 10 which was very pleasing (although if it was in the wrong pit ....!!). Jan caught me here and we raced each other from here to finish. I definitely pushed harder than I normally would (must learn from this). 17-18 went round paths as Jan went straight, was just faster than him although marginal. 19-20 slipped and fel, somebody asked if I was alright, said yes, got up slipped again, cutting hand on something so now struggling to get blood off map as well as mud. dithered for 5 seconds staring at 20 thinking "that's the control we went to earlier" without thinking that we might be visiting it a second time... 21 got to control 102 which we'd been to on the first half. Jan had got a bit ahead by now but chose direct route to 24, I ran round paths and got there just ahead of him. Clean through to finish from there.

Pleased with result, first time under 70 mins on a brown course.

Orienteering (MLS Hawley) 1:15:12 [0] 11.53 km (6:31 / km) +163m 6:06 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: VJ Irocks 2019

A lovely sunny day for orienteering. A lot of path running as vegetation looked pretty grotty at times, but on a number of legs I decided to run off path as better physical training... not necessarily great racing wise but so much more interesting than running around. 8-9 in particular went straight leaving 8 and that seemed like a bit of a slog... 9-10 took a longer route round, not sure if the best. 13-14 was first time in my life that I've had to change route plans due to machine gun fire battle in front of me and a gent in camo gear saying "excuse me sir would you mind going round behind this area".... "behind the machine gun fire? No... no I wouldn't mind......."

Very pleased with my run, was a minute and a bit behind Geoff and 3.37 down on lead when I finished. Surprised not to feel too fatigued after yesterdays running....

Run (BOK Angel Inn) 1:01:31 [0] 10.35 km (5:57 / km) +234m 5:20 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 10 2017 Grey

A good session, couldn't resist pushing on with Scott up the zig zags and round, definitely wouldn't have run that pace on my own but neither of us wanted to slow up before the other... quite glad when catching the others that took the shorter route gave a natural place to ease off a bit..... good also to have Rachel join scott and me to push us on for the last bit. Forgot that I was planning to orienteer on Wednesday...

Not convinced by Ifor's "open game pie" in the pub. Wasn't even a stew with a lid, it was a stew on a plate, with a ball of pastry on top of it! Looked good even if I wouldn't call it a pie....
