Final of the WNL season!
Jumped on train from the start - had been watching Biathlon in the morning so had "der zug, der zug, der zug hat keine bremsen" as an earworm all day... and it felt a bit like a train with no brakes. Not sure who was driving, possibly Matt Whipple... anyway 174, 162, 163 and 165 went in a blur before I had time to make a plan. 184 and 175 were obvious from there. decided to get 191 and track back north and uphill for 183 and 190 - a bit lucky on 190, just started wondering whether I should bail out and relocate and found myself on top of it..., then back south and up for 171, 170, 182. Was a bit off on 193, found wet ground and worked back west to find correct stream, then back up to the spring. 200 walked on a bearing. missed 176 to the south, just a bit careless. 172, 179, 169 then back over for 181. Up the veg boundary for 178 then crash through green to 177. 168 and 180. Should have got 166 here but ran down to 167 and 192 before realising I did have enough time to clear. SO, back up for 166, down road to 164 then across terrain for 173. Missed it and found myself beyond car park, no time to go back so just punched 161 and dashed for the finish. I reckon with a bit of better thinking for that final bit I could have got both last controls but still happy with 590 points and 5th place.
Meant to go out for 15km so didn't take any drink, or money, or glasses... was having a good time and forgot to turn around... knackered by time I got home and eyes started being really funny for last 10 or so km, vision was sort of like flashing...
