At long bay - ran pretty much to the end. Did the 5km effort hills on a nice bit hill out of one of the bays.
Got attacked by NZ's most dangerous animal - the pukeko not once but twice! For some reason they were swarming the track today and didn't want to move out the way. The first one was so aggressive it chased me for a good 50m! The second one literally moved with it's chicks onto the section of track I was doing the hill reps halfway through and then proceded to chase me on my last rep. One insanely fearless bird..

Did a hurdle exercise that made me quite thoughtful - mimiced one of the orienteering micro physical skills. I also have highly unflexible hamstrings fml.

Same as last week.. except I was running with a really top runner. And I felt rubbish. Screwed timing on the first one then let Tom pace me through them. 1:55, 1:51, 1:51, 1:49, 1:49, 1:49, 1:49, 1:45. 1:45 rests. Suffered and survived - last intervals before 5k! Will be doing a 3km at 5km race pace on camp next week to prepare. Target time is 15:40 (3:08s) although I back myself to pull out something quicker with how things are going.

In the heat of the day on the hottest day so far this summer. Was a little worried off the start about the heat which proved fairly wise. Ran south from Robinson, taking more trails this week although everything is quite hard packed and dusty now so was quite fast. From about halfway I ran for maybe 30mins without shade and it started taking it's toll grinding up a hill near the end in the sun - I found myself wobbling a little. Luckily it was shady after that and recovered to the end but I was very thirsty when I got back to my car!

Got a little rekt by this training, the legs across the blank map were a little long and I found myself not being very confident at all on the relocation. Thinking of doing the identical training next week again, this produced exactly the feeling I get in bad races/spells - I drop concentration, panic a little I guess and stop seeing things clearly. The problem is confidence I think - so much of my training is about always being in control that I've become scared of what happens when I lose control...
