Training Log Archive: Quicksilver

exploring Cal Poly and the area around it. First took a little hike around campus (it's so flippin' beautiful and clean and the people are so nice ack!), then hiked up Mount Madonna to get some epic views on the campus, SLO, and even the ocean. Capped it off with some downtown walking (more pretty views), tri-tip sandwiches (so. much. meat.), Bubblegum Alley (surprisingly disgusting), and Morro Bay.

Overall impressions: dang. Everything is a lot bigger than I expected it to be, and it's also even more scenic and majestic than anything I had expected. The people are legendary, mainly due to the diversity I saw. You bump into cowboy-hatted ranchers chilling beside the nerdiest engie majors you ever saw in your life, and it all fits together just fine. People aren't hella elitist about things (*glares at Cal*), but they still value natural beauty. It's a refreshing balance which I haven't seen much of lately. That being said... if I go here, I'm gonna miss the big city. I never thought I'd say this, but I think I'd miss skyscrapers. SLO is still a sizable city, but compared to what I'm used to... it'll take some getting used to. Opportunity-wise I think it's just the right size (although this is also an ongoing debate), because fine, you won't get an Apple internship *while at college*, but you *will* get into a whole lot of hands-on work that might be even more interesting. And hey, if Cal Poly is a little more chill than Cal, then you'll even have more time to devote to internships/work like this. It's something new, and if I go here then I'll have to get used to a *lot* of new stuff... but it might just be worth it.
