orienteering race 2:01:25 [5]10.7 km (11:21 / km)
ahr:174 max:199 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285
nat classic m21e
what a shit race. legs felt amazing, lasted the 2 hours easy and was strong the whole way through. perhaps a little too fast cos i overshot so much early on. was in last at number 7 pulled back to 18th, but losing 25-30mins meant i was waaay out. needed to play it way safer and be patient. warm up on the bike worked really well, along with the long jog to the start. need about 40mins to get properly going. mistakes were just stupid. will learn before jwoc, need to run 3 or 4 real classic races by then. shins were sweet but had taken the old nurofen again
road 36:22 [3]16.41 km (2:13 / km)
ahr:168 max:178 shoes: specialized pro road
warm up on the road bike along the road to the event. did 2 solid accelerations to get the legs going and focussed on high cadence. felt good. wish i could have done a longer ride cos the roads were cool as
road warm up/down 10:00 [3]

warm down
run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Saturday Mar 22

road 31:45 [3]16.05 km (1:59 / km)
shoes: specialized pro road
road ride with bj on the flat from masterton out to the ranges. afternoon after the race to loosen the legs up. quite cold
orienteering race 33:43 [5]4 km (8:26 / km)
ahr:191 shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285
nz middle dist champs
too messy to do well, lost around 3 minutes in the middle portion of the course, got too distracted by michael being around me. should have done my own thing and ignored him. held off carsten for most of the course. finished ok up the hill, though wasnt feeling as good as in any of the 3 other races. shins were alright
run warm up/down 25:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285
warm up and down, didnt do any accelerations today in warm up, perhaps the reason legs werent as good.

Friday Mar 21

Event: New Zealand National Championships

road warm up/down 32:45 [3]17.45 km (1:53 / km)
shoes: specialized pro road
warm up before the sprint. did the usual mtb race warm up with the specific effort i usually do, cleared the legs out from the car trip and switched them on. long warm ups are definently the way to go. bike was awesome meant i could take myself away from everyone, important today cos of the late start time.
road 35:00 [1]
shoes: specialized pro road
ride back fromthe sprint to the motel and then a cruisy ride with jaime and hamish out on the flats around masterton, needed it to clear the lactic acid out of the legs
run warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285
orienteering race 14:59 [5]3.2 km (4:41 / km)
ahr:195 max:202 shoes: Asics DS Trainer
nz sprint champs
1st m21e!
pretty sweet run, felt strong and fast, big improvement in running from waitangi. dropped about 20-30 sec on small mistakes, mainly control circle errors plus one dumb route choice. carsten was 3 sec behind with ross a bit furthur down. shins were all good. stoked as to finally win.

Thursday Mar 20

Note
(rest day)
another day off training. Still tired as from ARC. figured better to come into nats as fresh as possible instead of trying to squeeze in some sessions. who said no training the week before nationals didnt work
