orienteering race 59:14 [3] 3.3 km (17:57 / km) +140m 14:49 / km
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

NSW middle dist champs @ snow hills; did some atrocious navigating but somehow finished. missed the spur and went too far around the hill to #1. didn't orientate my map correctly or something before leaving #3 and managed to stuff up a very short leg to #4 (not sure entirely what I did there!). progress to #5 was incredibly slow and I think I stopped at almost every termite mound along the way. #6 was good, sadly there were no cups left for drinks. #7 was terrible (lost about 13 minutes), I dropped into the gully too early on my first attempt and then thought I was at the creek so went back up to where I had come from and actually read my map, realised where I was and approached the control again, this time I got it spot on. last few controls were better (couldn't have been worse)

orienteering 34:00 [3] 3.4 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'control flow' @ mt anslie north; I enjoyed this exercise as it had lots of short legs. made a silly mistake at #5 by not trusting myself (I was right near the control but didnt see it). felt like I had good flow around 8-15 then I didn't correctly orientate and went too high to #16.

orienteering 27:00 [3] 2.0 km (13:30 / km)
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'attack point' @ isaacs ridge; nav was generally a bit sketchy. wasted a fair bit of time on #6 standing and looking at some boulders. didn't plan a route exactly to the control for #9 and like #6 stood around looking at some rocks for a while. needed to look more closely at the detail on the map at times rather than trying to simplify it.

orienteering 40:00 [3] 2.8 km (14:17 / km)
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'along, down, up' @ isaacs ridge; probably my worst training exercise. I struggled to concentrate and plan my routes and then couldn't fix things easily when they went wrong. #1-#6 were all reasonably ok however I totally screwed #7 and then ended up going straight to #11 and finished the rest from there.

orienteering 55:00 [3] 5.3 km (10:23 / km) +346m 7:49 / km
ahr:164 max:190 shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'long leg exercise' @ mt anslie; just a lot of track running for the long leg, much more physical than mental. I enjoyed the short legs after the long leg and my bearings were perfect. I ended up a bit high for #4 and had to go down and back up again which was annoying.

orienteering 28:00 [3] 2.4 km (11:40 / km) +41m 10:45 / km
ahr:138 max:174 shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'downhill legs' @ mt anslie; just very slow. nav was mostly good I just didn't trust myself to run fast/don't enjoy running fast downhill!

orienteering 40:00 [3] 2.4 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

training camp 'contouring' @ mt taylor; not fun (also just guessing time here). it was quite steep and there was a lot of green so it was difficult to practice contouring when you were trying to avoid the thick vegetation. nav was ok but I was very tired and did not enjoy it at all.

orienteering 15:00 [3] 2.2 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: brooks defyance 7

mixed sprint relay @ carotel; was a bit of fun, probably not the best for recovery and wasn't at all technical but fun nonetheless

orienteering race 1:13:30 [3] 5.5 km (13:22 / km) +150m 11:46 / km
shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

easter day 3 @ foxlow flats; some poor route choice and slow running. ended up hitting the creek to #1 much earlier than expected and had to follow it for a while. ended up above #2 and got a bit distracted by the number of people on my course there. screwed up #7 by not orientating my map correctly and not following my plan. pretty happy with my execution of the long leg to #8 but I was just very slow. looking back this was a pretty easy course and I shouldn't have let the other people distract me so much because it really impacted my nav.

orienteering race 1:27:32 [3] 8.7 km (10:04 / km) +179m 9:07 / km
ahr:167 max:197 shoes: inov8 X-talon 212

easter day 2 @ the murdering shed; much better than yesterday. some of the erosion features were bigger than I was expecting. I found that I ran along the spurs well though I dropped down too early to #5 and had to follow the creek for a while. made a silly mistake on #10 by not trusting myself, I came into a gully perfectly but thought I was too low and went further up the gully before crossing it only to backtrack to the control. #13 involved another stupid mistake, I didn't orientate my map correctly and went down into the wrong gully.
