Note
(sick)

Mild cold. Probably swallowed too much mud on Sani2c.

Gym (Bio) 1:00:00 [3]

1200 - Luckily not too hard a session. Either that or I'm getting stronger.

Orienteering race (St John's College) 20:07 [4] 3.2 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: Salomon 3D Pro black #9

0940 - St Johns College. Ouch. Took me 14 controls to warm up. No oomph. Only the last 4 controls felt decent. Should probably have bene up to 1 minute faster with a proper efforrt. Legs just couldn't go fast enough to get the HR up.

Mountain Biking race (Sani2c) 3:00:44 [5] 74.21 km (24.6 kph) +804m
shoes: Specialized Epic Comp 2006

0705 - Day 3 of Sani2c. The fastest day of the 3. Starts off with fast downhills on district road. Don and I had been promoted to B. I dropped to the back to avoid any nasty crashes, so it was a while before we started recatching the bunch. Don was on top form so we raced quite hard the whole way. One good climb in a nature reserve saw us catching lots of teams before the final descent to Scottsburgh and the coastline. Don't know the day's position (quite good), but overall we finished 73rd. Mountain Biking race (Sani2c) 5:23:34 [5] 98.0 km (18.2 kph) +1823m
shoes: Specialized Epic Comp 2006

0548 - Day 2 of Sani2c. The long day, including a drop into the Umko river valley and then another into the Ixopo. Lots of climbing, but a lot of this was on a district road. We started in C batch, but had a great start. Don was much quicker out of the blocks and more race-savvy, hence he followed me into a break as we hit the first singletrack at about 7km. A lot of these tracks are dual tracks and we were the first down the 2nd unused track, allowing us to get a gap on the bunch. We went down into the Umko as one of the first C-batch pairs and quickly caught B-batch (5 min ahead). Lots of mud lower down the valley (very steep as well). We did a lot of picking up the bike and running, which was faster, but also kept mud off our wheels. We caught the majority of B, but also some A-batch. After the Umko, the Ixopo was also technical, but thereafter the course was technically easier. We settled down and came home in a good place about 63rd for the day. Mountain Biking race (Sani2c) 3:36:18 [4] 79.61 km (22.1 kph) +1186m
shoes: Specialized Epic Comp 2006

0610 - Day 1 of the Sani2c MTB Race. Got an entry into the race at late notice and hooked up with Donovan Sims for this pairs race. Have been trying to get an entry for a few years now. Day 1 from from Underberg down to a sports field in the middle of nowhere. Very enjoyable cycling. We were seeded in C bunch. Don struggled initially and we dropped out of the back of C, but recovered, allowing us to start recatching. Lots of single track, some of it quite slippery. Short tough hill at the end. Maybe we could have finished up to 6 mins faster had we had a good start. I had a good ride and felt comfortable the whole way. Finished about 113th or so. Tm 3:35:46. Dst 79.61 Av 22.1 Mx 63.7
