Note

Well that sure was fun, but you know what's not fun? This IT band injury. No serious running for me for the rest of January. With classes starting again I'll be biking more instead and doing some laps at the university pool. In the mean time maybe I can finalize a training plan that will take me into the summer?

GNC Day 3 Classic
RG

Last day! To be honest when I started my only goal was to finish. The last 2 days where already quite taxing for my knee, and starting the 3rd day I didn't exactly feel fresh. I could't even warm up super properly since just jogging was already aggravating it a bit so I opted for some dynamic stretches and some ibuprofen pills to keep me going. On the bright side, I was able to run the whole race at a reasonable pace, with only a slight slow down towards the last half of the course. I was also much cleaner than yesterday, but still some mistakes that need sorting. Also, from analyzing splits, I seem to have a decently strong start compared to the other competitors. Now if only I could carry that momentum into the rest of the race, I think I could improve a good amount.

Bad exit from 2 resulted in me climbing needlessly and going a longer distance. Also crossing that marsh had me quite cold.
Parallel error at 4. Followed the wrong gully down into a different control that was off by only 1 digit. Almost didn't catch it since the features were the same.
Biggest mistake of the day was at 6. What I thought was my gully was actually the previous gully going into a re-entrant. Should have focused more on the contours instead of the gullies to find this control since that would have been way safer.
Probably could have Been a bit straighter on 8, but was trying to play it safer in this vague area.
Didn't see it at the time, but should have taken the right route choice to 12. Guess the climb instinctively scared me off.
Got into the circle at 16 but had to stop and have Jordan show me where it was.
Probably lost time to 17 with the route choice, but its hard to tell how much since at this point I was running quite slowly anyway.
Curved to far right on 19, didn't look at the map enough to see that I just needed to follow the spur down and no curving was necessary.

Overall better than yesterday. In fact I was surprised I was only 4 min behind 1st place and top 3 was withing 2 minutes of me. Kicking myself a little since I could have actually performed very well if I had made less mistakes but oh well. I can't wait to race everyone again and the whole weekend was a blast!
